Rives du Mékong - Vientiane (Laos) - 03 Janvier 2007
Je connais à Vientiane une petite buvette/restaurant relativement bien cachée (bon on commence à la voir apparaitre dans tous les guides pour voyageurs)... d'où on a une vue imprenable sur le Mékong, un endroit superbe pour attendre tranquillement le coucher du soleil en sirotant une "Beer Lao" (une des meilleures bières du sud-est asiatique à mon avis).

Le plan d'eau du Mékong est à cet endroit protégé par un grand banc de sable qui donne à l'eau une véritable apparence de miroir... à cette heure de nombreux pêcheurs reviennent avec leurs barques... silencieusement en fendant l'eau qui est d'huile... le soleil se couchant sur l'autre rive où se trouve la Thailande.

Je suis donc resté un long moment à observer, lire, dessiner et photographier le tableau vivant qui se déroulait sous mes yeux...

Banks of Mekong - Vientiane (Laos) - January 03, 2007
I know a little snack/bar in Vientiane, quite hidden (even if it starts to be mentioned lately by all travellers guide books)... from where one has a unspoilable view on the Mekong river, a superb place to quietly wait sunset, sipping a fresh "Beer Lao" (one of best beers of the South-East Asia in my opinion).

The water of the Mekong river is at this place protected by a large sand bank which gives to the water the appearance of a real mirror... at this time of the day, many fishermen return with their boats... silently slicing the water... the sunset on the other bank belonging to Thailand. I thus stayed a long moment watching, reading, drawing and photographing the daily local life...

Hi Pascal.
A very nice and peaceful picture. I love this monocromathic tones that gives the river a golden character. Those reflections are really beautiful and silouettes are very interesting, allowong us to see all the action of the picture. A very good work friend. Regards fron Spain.

Beautiful sharp image of this boat in sunset light. I like very much how the symetrical reflections are contrasted with the non-centered position of the boat there. Nice shot.

tout d'abord je vais mettre cette image dans mes favorites pour l'atmosphère magique qu'elle a.
Techniquement parfaite elle reproduit à 100% le calme et la paix qu'on peut vivre au Laos.

Beautiful colour, great exposure and nice silhouetting. The timing choice is good as well, taking the inmobile reference point and leaving it to the right. The framing enhances the elongated shape of the small boat and the waves don't get to touch the other elements of the picture, which allows for some quietness in the image, even if there is suggested motion.

Your two Mekong sunset shot are absolutely terrific, although the composition of this one is a lot better than the other one. What makes it so special is the diagonal incoming movement and the off center placement of the baot and fisherman. Very good shot!

This one is very good Pascal. The golden tones reflecting in the top section are absolutely out of this world. The water ripples are also very beautiful and set a very peaceful - and magical - mood in this photo. The silhouette was indeed a good idea here and your execution is perfect. Like the diagonal and that "something" that fills the right bottom third. Very well composed.

Au Laos outre la vache qui rit il y a le mekong...Ici il est magnifié et l'ambiance de fin de journée y est parfaitement retranscrite. (Souvenirs...)

Bonjour Pascal, this orange series is truly terrific! I even don't know which one is better... maybe this, composition-wise, is a bit better, as here you have two elements, each one with perfect reflections, which nicely interact. Congratulations for the whole series...

Superb series of shots that you have of the Mekong river, Pascal. This is probalbly the best one, because of the composition and the inclusion of the structure at right that gives a good graphic bonus. I remember having a fresh Beer Lao in hidden bar in Vientiane, as well, so I really know what do you mean in the atmosphere that you described in the note.
