Photographer's Note

This image started life as RAW and converted to JPG at highest quality setting using ACDSee Pro 2.5, with no cropping and visual adjustment. Flash exposure compensation was -1/3 and on 2nd curtain sync to capture the background detail. Aperture was F/4 for ISO 200 for the least noticeable amount of noise. Increasing the aperture higher than F/4 to get "better" or "sharper" definition would entail either higher ISO, therefore noise would be noticeable in the lowlight/shadows, or at a much slower shutter speed and therefore, camera has to be tripod mounted. Neither body nor lens has stabilizer. As the scene is on a public area with milling inquisitive crowds and a firing squad attitude of photographers behind me, you have to be mobile and flexible. And there were 2 over zealous security guards harboring very nearby who think the models were their new girlfriends :)

It was in the afternoon and the models, even though choreographed into modeling poses such as this, were tired and a bit jaded. They have had been "portrait" models since the night before and pretty much at least have been flustered since lunch with the ever increasing gawking crowds and cornea burning flashes from incidental photographers. The best time would be at the early stages of the exhibition, preferably in the morning when the models are still "fresh", hip and feeling just as sexy as the sports car she poses with. And feeling peppy either choreographed or on auto.

Obviously, the best location would be somewhere that matches the sports car's profile; wide open Bavarian windy countryside on an Autobahn with a mild overcast sky to bring out the speedster's attitude with a supermodel but not all assignments have what we wanted in our wish list. Most of the times, we have to make do the best that we can with what we have available to us.

When you are on the street shooting, there are guidelines and rules coming from textbook photography you just have to leave behind. Or break.

Photography is just like driving. There are roads and there are cars that you haven't driven before. You just need to know how to drive safe regardless of cars or roads at whatever speed.

Now if only one of these models...could come home with me. Hope she wouldn't mind my jalopy.
