Photographer's Note
One on in a series of pictures taken on a stormy afternoon in the Kek Lok Si Buddhist temple complex in the town of Ayer Itam in Penang.
Kek Lok Si is the largest such complex in Penang. The buildings that make up the complex are a mixture of Chinese, Burmese and Thai styles.
The construction of the temple began in 1890 and was inspired by the chief monk of the Goddess of Mercy Temple at Pitt Street. With the support of the consular representative of China in Penang, the project received the sanction of the Emperor Guangxu, who bestowed a tablet and gift of 70,000 volumes of the Imperial Edition of the Buddhist Sutras.
The primary benefactor of the Kek Lok Si Temple in 1906 was Kapitan Chung Keng Quee.
In 1930, the seven storey main pagoda of the temple or the Pagoda of 10,000 Buddhas, was completed. This pagoda combines a Chinese octagonal base with a middle tier of Thai design, and a Burmese crown; reflecting the temple's embrace of both Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism.
The complex is still being developed. In 2002, a 30.2m bronze statue of the Kuan Yin was completed and opened to public. It replaced the previous white plaster Kuan Yin statue which was damaged due to a fire a few years earlier. The bronze statue is located on the hillside above the pagoda while the head of the previous statue which survived the fire is preserved and placed on the right hand corner of the new statue.

Hi Stephen
The architecture, even though expected, is so very different. And then there are the highrises that are visible in the background, that provide a huge contrast.
Beautiful.

Hi, Stephen, my neighbor today again,
Good presentation of your archive photos. very interesting diagonal composition, I don't know about the Chinese culture but I remember I have seen the swastika everywhere in the Hindu temples in India.
Best wishes,
Serghei

Hello Stephen,
Beautiful depiction of Buddhist pagoda style architecture all over the frame from your high POV. Like the contrasting colours and the beautiful artwork on these impressive Buddhist temples. The high POV has enabled you to show the whole temple complex nestled amidst these nice green hills. Thanks for sharing a good photo.

Hi Stephen
this is delightful. It looks so colourful and your POV does it full justice, giving us an idea of its size, location and real beauty. Despite the weather this is a wonderfully atmospheric image. Love the fg detailing.

Ciao Stephen
peccato che il cielo non fosse quello giusto perchè il soggetto, i colori e la composizione sono tali da non fare passata inosservata questa fotografia.
Rimane una bella cattura che hai ulteriormente valorizzato con la saturazione.
Ciao e buona giornata

Good evening Stephen,
On the POV taken this photo, there were advantages and some disadvantages - to my humble opinion.
It is a great addition to post with the half-triangle roof side's, with its beautiful blue and golden decorations. Yet, we see the stunning view of the multi-pagoda roof-tops, in an impressive complex on the hill.
Altogether, vivid image, many details included and view out far over the green forest and town in the vally beyond.
Regards,
Ike
