Photographer's Note

This tourist is reading a map while walking, he is searching the location of the sites of interest. The oldest portion of Georgetown centre has been designated by Unesco as a World heritage site since 2008. Recognised as having a "unique architectural and cultural townscape without parallel anywhere in East and Southeast Asia", Georgetown contains one of the largest collections of pre-war buildings in Southeast Asia. The World heritage site covers nearly 2.6 km 2 of the city centre, roughly bounded by Transfer road to the west and Prangin road to the south. The zone includes the city's administrative precinct, which is home to the most historic landmarks like fort Cornwallis, City hall and the Penang state museum, as well as the main central business district along Beach street. Les cartes ont encore du bon et ne remplacent pas les smartphones avec le gps (quoique parfois bien pratique).
Une très bonne photo rendant compte d'un moment de la vie quotidienne.

Hello Miguel,
This man, Luciano and me... we are at least three persons who prefer a real map on paper rather than a small one in the mobile phone. It's an amusing glimpse from the street, but the attractive buildings across the street also provide a very nice background. It is definitely an advantage that the tourist is wearing a red shirt. This was well spotted and well snapped.

in the past such maps were easier to find, nowadays everybody use cellphone maps. in russia I used cellphone a lot. nice flagrant.

Hello Miguel Nice scene in the streets of Georgetown. a delightful row of the old buildings but the view of the guy in red with a map is the main attraction. I also take such maps from the hotels or the information centres. No need to choose between such a paper map and GPS. Both are very useful.

I used to go around places with a map, even when the internet was already in use - best & reliable way to get directions abroad.

Hi Miguel,
there is something really charming and a bit funny with this sight of the tourist with the map.
He certainly brings in some color and life to the scene. The red T-shirt stands out of the picture.
Behind him we can appreciate some elegant houses along the street.
