This was a place I first went to in 1997 and this time it was much more decorated as you can see, it is no other than.....................

Without doubt the largest and best known temple in Penang, the Temple of Supreme Bliss, better known as Kek Lok Si, staggered on the hillside overlooking the town of Ayer Itam. Since the olden days, the hills of Ayer Itam are regarded as important geomantically. Known as He San, or Crane Hill, they are recommended as a retreat for Taoist practitioners striving for immortality.
The Kek Lok Si project was mooted by the chief monk of the Goddess of Mercy Temple of Pitt Street. With the support of the consular representative of China in Penang, the project received the sanction of the Manchu Emperor Kuang Hsi, who bestowed a tablet and gift of 70,000 volumes of the Imperial Edition of the Buddhist Sutras.
Construction of the temple started in 1893, but it was only in 1930 that the Pagoda of Rama VI, named after the Thai king who laid the foundation stone, but better known as the Pagoda of 10,000 Buddhas, was completed. This pagoda combines a Chinese octagonal base with a middle tier of Thai design, and a Burmese crown, reflecting the temple's embrace of both Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism.
The latest addition to the temple complex is the 30.2m bronze statue of the Avalokitesvara - Goddess of Mercy or Kuan Yin - on the hillside above the pagoda. This statue was completed and open to the public at the end of 2002.

Maybe you weren't there around new year last time? I like the way you've made the most of these laterns in the compo, providing a good setting for the temple.

Hi Dan, A nice perspective view of the colorful lanterns. It is interesting to read the characters of “Answer to All Prays” as the slogan of the temple. Nice capture both of the lanterns as well as the architecture. Well done.

Hi Dan. Very pleasant photo of the temple making an appearance behind the amazing array of colorful lanterns. Good perspective effect resulting from your chosen shooting angle. Interesting notes, too.

Hej Dan,
The colourful lanterns create a great shot here. They look here very nicely in front of the big temple. You captured it from a good angle, well done!

Hi Dan. Awesome POV on this one. Also all of the lines going in a rather orderly fashion are appealing. Even without all those hanging things it would be a great shot. tfs Dan.

Hi Dan,
A very well composed shot. I like your POV and use of the vertical format here, peering upward and catching the fine colour and dynamics of the red lanterns and also all the fine architectural details of the temple. There are so many layers and the sense of height and proportion - a virtually 3D effect - is well captured. Well done.

Hi Dan - fantastic image that shows the architectural splendour with your trademark repetetive graphics, the colourful lanterns compensate for the bland white sky.

I wish you have had a lightful blue sky !
Whatever, this is a good pov and a good compo. These lanterns are funny. I simply like them.

Very nice and colorful again Daniel, the sharpness is excellent, the temple stand pretty nice even if it's hidden by the lanterns, well seen.

There is a good profit of the opposition of the very colored "lanternes" and the constructions, the composition is well built for this ceiling of colors and the place is beautiful like this
