Photographer's Note
Hello friends in TE,
In the 16th century, Portuguese traders from Goa, India sailed to the Far East in search of spices. It is said that a small rocky isle on the northern coast of a main island became a landmark for traders to stop and row in by boat to obtain fresh supplies of water from a nearby river. The local Malays called these traders ferringi, an Indian term for Europeans, especially Indian born Portuguese. That rocky isle was then referred to as Batu Ferringi, better known now as "Lover's Isle". The Portuguese called the main island "Pulo Pinaom" or Betel Nut Island. Probably areca nut palm trees were found abundantly then. The palm tree is known as PINANG to the Malays or PENANG to the English.
Here is a shot of that main island in the evening captured during sunset. The centre of activities around the island is known as the city of Georgetown.
Regards,
Jusni

Hello Jusni,
Great composition and very fine, soft colours. The small boat in the foreground works really well as a balance to the tall building in the opposite corner.
Best wishes,
Gert

Very nice view of this 'Pearl of the Orient' - Malaysian version. A very sought-after tourist destination. I like Penang more than KL.

Bonsoir Jusni
j'aime bien les teintes un peu passées dans cette photo. Une belle ambiance et un bel équilibre entre la tour et la petite barque. Bravo.

Hello Jusni,
The position of the boat entering into the scene is perfectly placed, I also like the shape of the boat offered by its silhoutte. Hazy sunsets offer soft lighting and are most often a beautiful light to capture scenes as this one.
Nice pict...

Hi Jusni, I see the light reflections on the high air damp and gives the interesting atmosphere of the region.
The composition is really great, the high buildings with the traditional boat with the man inside.
Cheers

Hi Jusni, I like the balance you have in this shot between the tower on the left filling the top left corner and the boat on the bottom right. They serve well to counter balance each other. When I see shots like this I immediately look for distortion, but you've done a good job here, the tower is in perfect alignment with your left frame, as are the buildings on the right. Great light, I like how you can just make out the second tier of hills behind the first. Great composition.
Thanks, John

hello jusni
from looking at the thumbnail, i had a feeling this is going to be a 'washed out sky' pic. but i must say, i am very pleasantly surprised. nice, mellow matching color and light set all across... and the bright sky does not disturb the eye at all... could almost be a monochorone picture, but i would not want to lose the bit of color here. the composition is very pleasant too with just the perfect "foreground boat" coming into the frame.
well seen and presented! TFS

Hi Jusni,
Really well written note to explain this shot. The haze has added to the atmosphere of this shot, the sharp boat contrasts really well with the hazy layers of mountains. Fantastic composition. Well done.

I was 22 the first time I see this landscape in 85. For every day that year, the smell of the strait and the sight of KOMTAR greeted me every morning as I made my way to work. Or walking along the beach along Bagan Ajam watching the sun set over Tanjung, on my way home from work.
Some colors are evoking. And they are not necessarily colorful or with a wide gamut. Most of the times, it takes a lot less to make one walks back memory lane. For memory, it doesn't see in colors but shades of grey.

Hello Jusni,
Clever inclusion of the boat to create a feeling of depth!
Sharp fine details in the city architecture, where the tower is a natural eye-catcher...
The haze adds to the atmosphere, nice afternoon light!
