First Snow, a photo from Govialtay, West

Photographer's Note

This photo was taken from a train when I was traveling towards the Gobi desert in September. When I left Ulaanbaatar it started to snow but after reaching Sainshand it was warm (15 C) and no trace of snow.

In 2018 the total number of population of Mongolia was 3.2 million people and 66.5 million livestock. About 30% of all households in Mongolia lived from breeding livestock. Due to the severe 2009 – 2010 winter, Mongolia lost 9.7 million animals, or 22% of total livestock.

The photo shows the contrast between one car on the road and hundreds of animals on the pasture.

Hello Zbigniew,
I like the minimalism of this photo and the very limited range of colours. It reminds me very much of paintings by some Sami artists from northern Scandinavia. The same kind of mountains and snow but herds of reindeers instead of sheep.

Hello Zbigniew, an excellent shot that makes one feel cold just looking at it!
I like the road with the single vehicle on it cutting through the landscape.
Lots and lots of livestock in the foreground contrasting with the curving lines of the mountains in the background.

This is much better than I had anticipated from the thumbnail. A great solitude, one car, much catlle and the eternal mountains. Impressive!
