Photographer's Note

A snap shot of 'everyday life' taken from the upper deck of a ferryboat moored at Pakokku pier along the great Irrawaddy river. These small time vendors, like many others from nearby village, tried to sell with all kind of merchandise often selling small snacks, fruits etc to passengers on the lower deck.

As always humanity is of my fav theme and observing this on a twelve hour journey, is a cultural awakening to a different way of life that probably few people have seen.

Setting: 70 mm, 1/250 sec, F4, ISO Raw 200, 0914 hrs & polarised

The perspective from above is amazing, but also the faces of the two women, almost on the verge of despair, have a great significance regarding the life they lead. A good photo of these two vendors, who must be having a hard life standing in the water next to the ferry while trying to sell some of those bananas. You captured them from a good angle, which emphasises their position down near the ferry.

I posted similar photo from Myanmar where women step into the water to be closer to boat to sell their products. Too bad that one hand of the woman was cutoff.

Everywhere in so called developing world many people rely on selling goods to passengers of passing vehicles to make a living. Standing in deep water makes the game so much more difficult.
