Photographer's Note
Rangoon, the capital city of British Burma, is so unique and evocative for it has a certain backwater charm. Rising from the city's cracked and chaotic streets is an extraordinary collection of colonial buildings which were erected in the late 19th century, some elegant, some imposing, some delicate, but nearly all are neglected. The variety of building styles is astounding, colonial architects brought with them the fashions of the decade, often mixing the latest European styles with Oriental influences creating a dramatic and eclectic cityscape.
This decaying facade of a British era building at Anawratha Road, has probably vanished into thin air by now....

Hi Abmdsudi. I remember well the backwater charm of Rangoon's colonial era streets, which you've captured nicely, showing interesting architectural details. I hope you're wrong and that they remain as they were - but I fear you are correct. I can't help noticing that the longyi, which was ubiquitous when I was there in '96, has been replaced by western clothes in the recent news footage. cheers, Steve

Hi Abmdsudi
The façade of this charming colonial era heritage building could have been renovated and incorporated into the new building under construction. That's what architects are doing here in Australia. But alas, this is Burma. I wonder what soul-less building stands there now? Well captured in the nick of time. Tfs!

Hello Abmdsudi,
Great photo and excellent tight composition to show these blue arches and walls behind the balconies. I really like the pattern of shadows and the play of light and shadows a lot. Very well done.

HI Abmdsudi, it's easy to think to Cuba watching this pic, and in fact the decadence is the same, here british are gone like the american in the caribbean island, and these are the result, a sad but charming witness of the past taken in a great way. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Abmdsudi, a faded and dirty facade that nevertheless has a charm. Just imagine what this must have looked like when it was new.
The direction of the light has created more interesting lines with the shadows falling across the building.
Excellent composition.
Kind regards, Jean.
