The "Izmailovo Market" in Moskow

The Izmailovo Market (or Vernisage) in Moscow (Russia) is probably the most famous one of the few big markets in town. It is a large outdoor market where someone can buy all sorts of things, new or second hand. Russian souvenirs, crafts, paintings, minerals, rugs, cameras (especially vintage ones), matrioshkas, old Russian uniforms and military accessories and even old riffles and pistols from the the "Cold War" era. This list is by far not exhaustive.

Tourist agencies are organising trips to this market. This market is an attraction and a "must" visit if someone is spending some time in Moscow, but better be prepared to spend the whole day there and fully recharge the battery of the photo camera.

Other interesting thins to see there is the "Vodka Museum." All you ever wanted to know about the history of the Vodka can be learned in this museum. It has also quite an impressive selection of Vodka brands displayed.

Next to the market is also the "Kremlin" which means "fortress." It is not the famous Kremlin on the Red Square, but one of many Kremlins in Moscow.

The photograph was taken of one of the many stalls that sell vintage articles, in this case cameras. I found that the vintage cameras look even more vintage in monochrome mode. In order to get the full details of the cameras, I reduced the highlights that were reflected from the metal parts of the cameras. I also increased a bit the contrast.
