TURKEY IN RUSSIA, a photo from Saint Petersburg, Northwest

Photographer's Note

There are two huge parks around the Catherine Palace, I visited only one and had not so much time to explore it deeply.
This park is adorned with lakes, islands, bridges, fountains, sculptures and pavilions. Many pavilions are inspired in Dutch architecture, others are similar with the style of the palace itself.
Here we can see one of the most famous corners of the park with a pavilion imitating the Turkish architecture, it was a kind of celebration of Catherine after the victory against the Turks. Unfortunately I didn't stay closer of it. The roof looks like a giant golden bowl adorned with arabesques and precious stones.
These pavilions were exploded by the Nazis by revenge, when they were obligated to abandon the area, but they were rebuilt exactly as they were after the war.

Existem dois imensos parques ao redor do Palácio de Catarina, visitei apenas um e o fiz rapidamente, pois meu tempo estava acabando.
Esse parque é enfeitado com lagos, pontes, fontes, pavilhões e esculturas. Muitos desses pavilhões são imitações da arquitetura holandesa, outros são parecidos com a arquitetura do palácio em si.
Temos aqui um dos mais famosos recantos do parque com um pavilhão imitando a arquitetura turca, isso foi mandado fazer por Catarina depois que ela venceu os turcos. A cúpula do prédio lembra uma imensa saladeira dourada, decorada com arabescos e pedras preciosas.
Esse pavilhão e os demais foram todos explodidos pelos nazistas como vingança quando tiveram que abandonar a área, depois foram reconstruídos tal qual eram no passado.

Beautiful park, this building makes impression.
I like the golden dome and the minaret.
Good framing, colors and light.
The fog add flavor to this picture.

While it is possible to see such smaller mosques in Turkish provincial cities, it is rare to see them in Ankara and Istanbul, which have much more grandiose structures. Good catch of the person passing for scale. Tfs!

Hello Jorge,
It is strange to erect a building in the form of a house of prayer of the former enemy after the military victory.
The picture is taken from a good point of view showing the mosque surrounded by the greenery and with a refection in the lake.
The overhanging branches can partly hide the dull sky.

Hello Jorge,
It's a nice little copy of a Turkish mosque, but it looks slightly lost in this green environment that doesn't look very Turkish. It's a pleasant view anyway, and the colours are nice despite the dull sky.

Hi Jorge,

The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the trees and of the pavillion. The cloudy sky does not hurt the colors output. Have a nice day.

hello Jorge, It is not the mosque, nor the toilet, it is a TURKISH BATH. (see what I wrote on the Forum). I have seen it, from the distance, but it was too far to go, we had a limited time. Charming picture, with the trees framing and slight haze. Nice reflections too.

Hello Jorge,

Fancy, exploding something as pretty as this, for no particular reason! It would not be something that would assist the allies!!

It is a lovely building, with its golden, jewelled roof but what a strange place to build it, surrounded by woodland and on the banks of the lake.
Is this where it was built originally?

The picture offers a very nice view across the calm lake towards the pavilion with its golden dome and white walls. The trees create a beautiful, natural frame.

A good small fake mosque. (I stand corrected by Malgo - it is a bath complex). Looks like it was a bit foggy or drizzly when you were there but it produced an atmospheric photo.

It is a cool photo of small mosque with the golden dome and one tiny minaret surrounded by the water.
With calm weather you got nice reflection.
The oak branch make nice frame to the picture. Well done!
