Photographer's Note

As every old city grows new buildings go up, and the history of the city fades away. Tomsk is over 400 years old and has some of the few wood frame buildings in all of Russia (so I was told). Looking through TrekEarth, I saw other pictures of this beautiful city. Showing the history and the focus on education this city has. 50 university campuses and close to 1 million students every year.

I read one comment about showing the new growth of the city instead of focusing on the old. So here it is, this is what is replacing the beauty of the old. A facade on the red brick to make it look modern, colors that draw the eye, but to what? Is this just a misunderstanding of new building elsewhere? Give me the old, or the appearance of old any day. To me it is like going to Niagara Falls to see the casino.
