Photographer's Note

I was shown around the city of Tomsk by one of my student's parents. The parents spoke almost no English... or at least that they intended to do, forcing their daughter to speak to me. The tour brought me through the "Center of Tomsk" which is actually on the the edge of town. Then I was taken here to the corner stone of Tomsk, which is the close to the center of the city... go figure. Oh yes, and I was paid for this tour.

The 400 year old stone marking the town is just behind me, marking the highest point in the city. Stretching out as far as my poor camera can see is one a small part of the city. Sprawling like a Canadian city, until you get to the new sections seen on the horizon. Mostly white apartment buildings, some painted odd colours.

The old and the new co-existing, yet not. I miss that beautiful city, and the nice people.
