Autumn Colours in Tajikistan, a photo from Sughd, West

Photographer's Note

I mentioned in my previous post that my last few days in Tajikistan were all about autumn colours and beautiful landscapes of the Fann Mountains in north west of the country.

I spotted these poplars, which looked very attractive combined with the red leaves of the other trees and the blue sky, while travelling in a shared taxi from Dushanbe to the lake Iskandarkul. The following day, I walked all the way from the lake back to that place to take photos, 20 km round trip, half of it steep uphill (annoyingly, the climb up on the way back!).

I bumped into a group of kids on their way from school and they immediately started asking for money, in Russian, as if they knew I am familar with the lingo. I thought about the schoolkids in Afghanistan, who only wanted pencils and pens.

Hello Kasia,
Three beautiful and amazingly bright photos. Both WS are just as well composed but just slightly less spectacular. The contrasts of yellow, red, green, grey and blue in the main photo are... wonderful...
You were probably lucky that the kids didn't turn aggressive if they didn't get any money and started to throw rocks at you, just for fun. It happened to me a couple of times.

Ciao Kasia,great fest of colors. And 3 different way to show the colors of autumn in different and original compositions. The dry ground and the rocky mountains are like a perfect monochrome background. The use of turquoise water in the WS as a different background is a great idea! Well done,always a step ahead! Hello Kasia,
Not much vegetation in this arid region but in autumn the landscape shows its amazing colours.
A wonderful trio of photos to present us the Fann Mountains.
The colour of the river is also wonderful.
I suppose the children had previously met foreign tourists as they asked for money.
However, I don't immediately expect that Tajikistan is/was a very popular travel destination.

Witaj Kasiu, Kolor wody na zdjeciu w Workshopie jak w Jiuzhaigo w Chinach. Fantastyczne jesienne kolory tych topól i innych czerwonych drzew. Wydaje się, ze zasieg jest bardzo wysoki.
Dzieci pewnie prosiły pieniądze po rosyjsku, bo nie znają angielskiego, dzieci Zanzibarskie też juz sa zepsute przez turystów i prosza o pieniądze za zdjecia w suahili (czy wiedzą, ze zrozumiem?, haha).

Good heavens: a pretty postcard! And very pretty, too. The colours are almost overwhelming, and if I didn't know you better, I'd be thinking that you gave Nature a little helping hand! Super shot as a conventional but thoroughly superior landscape. Thought about maybe 1/2 stop less exposure (which would beef up the saturation even more, so maybe not!)?

Autumn colours of those trees are incredibly saturated. Also tall and narrow shapes are special. Red bushes look great too. And of course I like the rough mountain background.

Hello Kasia,

You have seen some wonderful sights and met some very interesting people, some more amenable than others.

The hike was a difficult one but you captured some very beautiful photographs as a result.
I don't think I have ever seen poplar trees this colour, they look so attractive, in their golden gowns and create a striking combination when seen against the red hues of the other trees.
The b/g of stony, towering mountains set the whole scene in context.

The Big Bird Count is always the last week in January but I will send you a reminder if you are back in the U.K.
I saw some birds that I have never had in the bird count before; long tailed tits, which arrived in a family group and reed buntings which I had to identify in my RSPB Bird Guide. Never ever seen these before!

I was surprised to learn about the heedless behaviour of people in London, regarding lockdown! Where I live, people are only out in family bubbles, giving people wide births if meeting on a pavement and wearing masks at all times if entering shops. (Of course, there are the odd ones who don't follow the rules but that is life. Still I don't think we should expect people to be irresponsible when saving lives is the object!)

What a beautiful shot in bright sunlight, which made the autumn colours of the trees, most of all the yellow trees, stand out so well here in the foreground. The majestic rocks and mountain peaks add a great backdrop behind them. Well captured.

Czesc Kasiu,
wspaniala jesien. od zoltych topoli po bardziej czerwone krzaki w centrum fotografii.
Bajeczny krajobraz.
No coz pewnie dziewczyny wiedzialy ze nie moga liczyc na dlugopisy i olowki bo przyzwyczaily sie wszyscy turysci pozostawiaja przybory do pisania w Afganistanie, przypuszczaly jednak ze troche pieniedzy moze ci jeszcze pozostalo :)
Masz racje latwiej i chetnie sie dzieli rzeczami ktore maja jasne zastosowanie jak leki czy olowki. Pieniadze niekoniecznie bywaja dobrze wykorzystane.

Jesien jest moja ulubiona pora roku w gorach gdzie drzewa zmieniaja kolory a na szczytach mozna zauwazyc pierwszy snieg. Swietne zdjecie z tego malo pokazywanego kraju na TE.

wow! many fabulous colors. I saw many golden trees in siberia, but here you got much more. the contrast with the rocks and the blue sky is fantastic. TFS.
