Photographer's Note
There are over 120 wats or temples within the municipal limits of the city of Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai wats typically have three common structures, the viharn, or main meeting hall, the ubosot, a small, consecrated meeting hall for monks, and the chedi, a ceremonial stupa, in the shape of a rounded or faceted-sided pyramid. These structures may be gilded, adorned with glass mosaics and lacquer, and faced with teak, and beaten silver or aluminum.
Wat Phan Tao, also written Wat Pantao, is a Buddhist temple in the heart of the old city. The name Wat Phan Tao means "Monastery of a Thousand Kilns". The name is believed to refer to the casting of the numerous Buddha images for its even bigger neighbour, Wat Chedi Luang, located right next door.
Wat Phan Tao has a beautiful viharn (main prayer hall), a majestic structure that is today one of the few remaining all-wood buildings in Chiang Mai . The viharn was originally the ho kham which means the palace (or literally, the "gilded hall") of Chiang Mai's king, Chao Mahawong, who ruled from 1846 to 1854. This magnificent building was reassembled here and today functions as a monastery.
Inside the viharn, a wooden statue of Buddha dressed in yellow satin stands in front of rows of begging bowls...I liked the cracked texture on the paint

Good Morning Angshuman,
I really like this photograph which uses the shallow dof so very well, giving crisp, almost palpable details in the f/g and an oof, extended b/g.
Lovely!
Have a great week,
Bev :-)

Hi Angshuman,
The distance between the statue and the window in the background is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showinh the details and the colours of the statue. The good luminosity is bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.

A super composition Angshu. I like your unusual POV looking at the details of the Buddha from behind and seeing the rows of offering bowls stretching into the distance. The dark tones really help to emphasise the rich golden tones of the statue and you have chosen the perfect aperture to allow enough detail behind the Buddha but not enough to detract.
Nicely done, I like this a lot.
Warm regards

Bonjour Angshuman

Hello Angshuman,
Very unique choice of POV to shoot this golden Buddha statue. I like the way its golden colour is contrasting so well with the dark interiors of the monastery. Good sharp focus on the subject to capture great details. A well thought and expertly executed image, thanks for sharing.

Hello Angshuman,
A well composed shot using the golden statue to pull the viewer into the scene. The over the shoulder POV, the dark background and the shallow depth of field really make it stand out. Excellent light management and execution.
Kind regards,

Hi Angshu,
beautiful composition with the Buddha in the foreground and pleasantly blurred details of the temple in the back. I think I have been to a Buddhist temple only once in San Francisco :)

Dear dada,
it is indeed a nice composition. I like how you used such shallow depth of field to generate such blur at background. A good one with tac sharp foreground and nice play of light and shadow in background. Bhalo chhobi. Tfs.

A great viewpoint, shot of a landscape view of the bowls within this temple and the transition from dark to light with the statue looking into the darkness. The exposure is spot on for both inside and out with sense of depth. Serendipity is not just the knack for making happy accidental discovery but also the ability to recognise its value and this certainly has given a different lovely image. Well done, TFS

Hi Angshuman,
Good density levels and the seated Buddha occupies a prime space in the bottom left corner and appears to be surveying the full length of the Wat. Excellent contrasted lighting with good graphic elements and impeccable sharpness and saturation. Have a nice weekend!

Namaste, my friend Angshuman,
a difficult shot, with a great challenge in the exposure, but that you've solved perfectly.
I love the statue of Buddha with its golden tones in foreground, opening our look towards the dark background, across the nice perspective of the rows of begging bowls.
The contrast, light and colors of the picture are beautiful.
Well done.
Best wishes,
Josep

Namaskar dear Angshu
A compelling POV, with excellent depth of field and good tight framing. There seems to be a slight blur of over exposure in the top right corner, but nothing that takes away seriously from the photo. Beautiful rich colours and definition.
Warmest wishes

Hi Angshuman!
I really like this shot! The composition is great with the Buddha in foreground, I like the way you show his back instead of his face and then the rows of dark bowls. Very good light and focus!
