Photographer's Note
Wat Phra Singh (Temple of the Lion Buddha) is perhaps Chiang Mai’s most important temple. Founded in the 14th century, it lays claim as the main city temple & houses a few medieval Buddha statues. The temple is named for the Buddha image it housed in 1367, the Phra Singh (Lion Buddha), said to be a gift from the king of Sri Lanka.
Wat Phra Singh was built in 1345 by King Pha Yu for the ashes of his faher, King Kham Fu. This temple contains supreme examples of Lanna art.
Wat Phra Singh may have been the first monastery to house the Emerald Buddha, which is now enshrined in Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok. A copy of the famous statue (actually made of jadeite rather than emerald) can be seen in this wonderful Lanna style viharn. Note carefully & one can see 4 monks sitting in front of the Buddha image. Almost life like, these are actually wax statues of 4 venerated Buddhist monks....you can check close-up image of one of the monks here & the second monk here
Wish you a very happy, healthy & prosperous 2013 to all & everyone in Trekearth

What a great indoor architecture to savour, superbly composed and flawless light management in wonderful deep colours with enormous delicasy to draw attention in. Another beautiful and a typical local designed temple, your notes are very interesting to complement this beautiful shot. The presence of the monks are timely shot and this is great inclusion as they add that strong focal point and anchor. Thanks to your keen eyes and observation. A fine and striking shot, Well done.
May I wish you all the very best in the coming New Year.

HI Angshuman,
The presence of the monk is giving life to the scene. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the architecture of the temple of the Lion Buddha. The surrounding light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Bonjour Angshuman
J'aime beaucoup le format de l'image. Toute en hauteur il donne beaucoup de profondeur. Le tout est d'une grande symétrie et d'une magnifique luminosité.Les couleurs sont joliment saturées.

Hello Angshuman!
Very beautiful temple!
Truly attractive picture!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, black & white borders, vertical format and chosen pov truly pleased me! Symmetrical composition is also a great feature here, but I'd include a bit more of the monks on the bottom half of it and cut off a bit of the top! Nothing serious though, of course!
TFS - congrats,
Season's Greetings!!!!

Hello Angshu - Happy New year to you too, may the new year bring you peace, joy and harmony. You have captured the richness of the decoration in the viharn really well. The reds and gold stencil work is distinctive and nicely contrasted by the Emerald Buddha. Your POV and WA lens has worked well allowing the intricate roof detailing to become a major point of interest in the shot. Super shot and a treat to see. Warm regards rosemary
PS. The waxwork monks are something I have never seen, fascinating!

Namaste Angshu,
I was in Bangkok where I saw the original Emerald Buddha, after watching your WS I only realized the monks were not real
Just was going to ask how you managed not to disturb them
Good interior capture with perfect natural light, being the red the main color
Great vertical frame
Congrats
and
All the best for 2013
Maria
