Eighteen-cubit Buddha, a photo from Chiang Mai, North

Photographer's Note

Staying on with Wat Chedi Luang. Also known as Maha Chedi Luang, this castle-like structure is recognised as one of the greatest pagodas of Chiang Mai. The wat was started in the 14th century and reflects the early Lanna style architecture of the period as well as many other styles that have shaped the structure as it has been adapted and developed over the centuries.

The viharn near the temple’s entrance was built in 1928. Round columns with bell shaped bases and lotus finials support the high red ceiling inside.

The standing Buddha image inside is known as the Phra Chao Attarot or “Eighteen-cubit Buddha”. Phra Chao Attarot is flanked by two disciples both renowned for meditation and mysticism. Made of a combination of brass alloy and mortar, the images dates back to King Saen Muang Ma (1385-1401).

Hi Angshuman,

The wideness of the room is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the viham and of the Buddha. Using an ISO of 400 and a slow shutter speed has a special effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Angshuman,

Perfect sharpness on the bg Buddha satues and worshippers with just a little oof on the fg column. I know tripods are not usually allowed so you did well with a handheld shot. Love the warm golden colors and intricate designs. The border and graphic design layout are excellent. Tfs!

Hello Angshu,

I like the idea and the composition of this shot making us entering and participating to the monastery.
The composition putting the pillar in foreground is giving architectur detail but also an intimacy feeling as if we were hidden a bit behind the pillar.
Looking to the parameter I guess you were without a tripod which would have allowed to close more the aperture, but for a 'free handled' shot, you found a good setting.

I am always uncertain what should be sharp and what blurred on such occasions so I actually avoid them just in case :) but you did a great job here.
