Photographer's Note
We just got back from a month in Vietnam, a country that is really special to us. My wife and I lived in Can Tho in the Mekong Delta from 1999 to 2001. This is the second time we went back (with our daughter). With so many wonderful people we know overthere, Vietnam and Can Tho in particular feels like a home away from home to us.
This is a rough outline of our trip:
1. about a week in Can Tho, meeting so many old friends, catching up on life and plans
2. doing the touristy bit, visiting Hoi An and Hue, seeing how things have changed
3. relaxing in Hanoi, a city we've always liked a lot
4. travelling up north to the remote beauty of Ha Giang province to see how the hill cultures are doing
You can expect lots more pictures later. For now, things are pretty hectic here, so I won't have lots of time to post pictures or review yours. More will follow.
Consider this an appetizer.
---
This picture was shot in a small Hmong village in Ha Giang in the far north of Vietnam. The Vietnam T-shirts that so many kids up there were wearing, were a present they got from the government after finishing the school year.

Hallo Benny,

Hello Benny,
Welcome back. One month is quite a long journey for people in the middle of the professional careers. It's a bright and eye-catching photo and a very suitable way to start your new series. I read the note with great interest. I spent just a couple of days in Can Tho in 2008 and enjoyed the city. For some reason the major cities (except Hué) have been my favourite places in Vietnam. The bigger they are, the less they are affected by the tremendous increase of tourism.
Best regards,
Gert

Dag Benny,
een tijdje geleden maar opnieuw een eenvoudige maar een goed gemaakte foto.
Het rood jurkje van het meisje met het opschrift is heel mooi gefotografeerd.
Mooi eenvoudig foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit oost-Vlaanderen,

Hello Benny, I wonder if you went somewhere. This photo is a very tasty appetizer. The kids got a nice present from the government and it is a kind of advertisement for the tourists.
But I am more interested in the note. I knew about your fascination with China but how it happened that you lived two or three years in Mekong Delta? What could you do there? And it must have been an incredible experience to meet the people after these years. I am looking forward to seeing the photos.
Kind regards Malgo

Hi Benny
I love Vietnam hopefully there's not much changes there since my last visit! Intriguing effect, like how you have isolated and bought out the appetizing red and yellow colours so well. Great light and detail too. Brilliant candid
Best regards

Hi Benny
cute little shot here, a shot that most tourists probably don't really think about shooting. interesting note, good to see your trip laid out like that, I wish I was there with you haha. Vietnam was suppose to be on our travel list in 19', but we were forced to change locations because of the Zeka Virus, as women who are pregnant are not advised to visit. So we cancelled out flights (lost money) and booked portugal and spain. So we'll get to Vietnam at some point.
Looking forward to your shots! I bet you have some excellent views to share. cheers

Hello Benny,
How I missed this excellent shot? The vivid red clothes of the tiny girl really sells the picture. Waiting for your other pictures from Vietnam.
Best Wishes,
