Photographer's Note

Hopkins Village is a Garifuna fishing village on the mainland coast of southern Belize about 30 minutes drive south of Dangriga. It’s a beautiful unspoilt location on the shores of the Caribbean Sea. I stayed in a small B&B that was right on the beach, with the warm turquoise ocean only 20 metres from my very comfortable cabana. With a delicious Indian restaurant across the road and a yummy breakfast served each morning, what more could I ask for.

The sunrise you see here can be observed from your bed (though I stepped outside to grab this shot). A 15 minute drive away is the Toucan Flyer a catamaran that can carry 20 people and goes on day cruises to the nearby Wee Wee Caye, part of the Belezian barrier reef. Several snorkelling stops are undertaken through the journey and you’re lavished with exotic foods and rum punch (if you choose).

For the land lover, the nearby jungles of Cockscombe Basin Wildlife Sanctuary and Mayflower/Bocawina National Park provide plenty of hiking and swimming opportunities.

I’ve bee to many places through the world, but this place is something special and I can’t wait to get back there in a year or two.

Hi Chris!

I like this photo of yours very much! When I take a standing/vertical shot, I normally do not come out very well from the situation. That is also why I needed to comment, because the area you have here adds slightly to this astonishing scene. I mean, the palm leaves are exactly in the right place (and they give depth, distance to the photo), the horizon looks pretty much horizontal to me :-), there is no ghosting affect because of the Sun, I also like the way the man is holding his body. Everything looks the way it should. You had a very good eye on this one, really, I cannot say anything less then these above. :-) It does have the mood! I love it!
