Photographer's Note
Ambergris is the southern tip of the Yucatán Peninsula. The little village's name is San Pedro and at least for me it is the most charming and original little place of the Caribbean. Well, it was, in 1997 when I made this photo, scanned just today. (I hope that it is still preserved). The results of scanning slides is much better than working negatives, since we got some grains on negative scans, and it is what happens here.
This is a classic view of San Pedro main street. In 1997 it was 100% sand streets and sand roads. I hope it is still the same today.
The most curious of San Pedro was the transportation. Everybody were riding golf carts! Some were driving motorcycles and many were driving golf carts! Cars? Maybe one or two pickups to work with heavy stuff. Can you imagine yourself going out for a dinner at night driving a golf cart? It happens every night in San Pedro. I can't forget!
Most of the people living in San Pedro works at sea, fishing or taking tourists to fishing or to scuba diving. Its a very nice people, friendly and helpful.
In 1997 there wasn´t any big american resort over there, but just little charming hotels. The place is very original! Scuba diving is one of the best of caribbean, for sure. You can spend some time snorkeling with at least 12 stingrays and 12 nurse sharks. I did it!
San Pedro and its people is a place that I keep in my heart and I would like to be there again in the future.
They use to say that Madonna wrote the music LA ISLA BONITA for them when she visited Ambergris, so here is my homage:
"Como puede ser verdad
Last night I dreamt of San Pedro
Just like I'd never gone, I knew the song
A young girl with eyes like the desert
It all seems like yesterday, not far away
Tropical the island breeze
All of nature wild and free
This is where I long to be
La isla bonita
And when the samba played
The sun would set so high
Ring through my ears and sting my eyes
Your Spanish lullaby
I fell in love with San Pedro
Warm wind carried on the sea, he called to me
Te dijo te amo
I prayed that the days would last
They went so fast
Tropical the island breeze
All of nature wild and free
This is where I long to be
La isla bonita
And when the samba played
The sun would set so high
Ring through my ears and sting my eyes
Your Spanish lullaby
I want to be where the sun warms the sky
When it's time for siesta you can watch them go by
Beautiful faces, no cares in this world
Where a girl loves a boy, and a boy loves a girl
Last night I dreamt of San Pedro
It all seems like yesterday, not far away
Tropical the island breeze
All of nature wild and free
This is where I long to be
La isla bonita
And when the samba played
The sun would set so high
Ring through my ears and sting my eyes
Your Spanish lullaby
Tropical the island breeze
All of nature wild and free
This is where I long to be
La isla bonita
And when the samba played
The sun would set so high
Ring through my ears and sting my eyes

Regards.
Daniel.

With the non teered road it looks deliciously remote and with the house style and the flowers sooo tropical, nice village street perspective.

Hello Jose Augusto:
Following the Madonna song, this place became very famous. I did not know that it was up to your country.
Extraordinary viewpoint within a low level. The depth of field towards the end of the street, can observe thousands of details, naturally within a perfect urban setting and proper handling of light.

Hi Zeca. Very appropriate that you mention Madona as it was her birthday this week. (According to the TV news) This looks very laid back and relaxed, the perfect place for a holiday. Well captured and thanks for sharing.
Have a good week, Paul.

Oi Zeca,

Hi Jose,
such a colorful image you present us here. The POV is very nice and the sharpness excellent. This city seems quite empty though, I only counted one person in the image. The quality is great, especially having in mind this was scanned.
Well done!
Best regards from Florida

Hallo Zeca!
Great photo - great note!
A village quite different from ours here. All these electric cables over the street are strange and interesting for European eyes. I like this one!

Belo trabalho!
Abração,

Hello Zeca,
An excellent point of view to capture this picturesque street!
For some treason the place reminds me of the lawless towns from Western movies, maybe it was used as location hehehe...
Excellent details, shining colours and a great sense of depth!

hi Jose
Really very interesting street scene and amazing that some architecture style can be found all over the world but this street of sand and free flow of traffic without any road signs is unique.
Such a fine TE post.
