Photographer's Note
Taking flight photos of butterflies is really difficult. Doka Estate coffee plantation has a butterfly garden, which made the job just a little easier.
Obviously I'm not a specialist of Costa Rican butterflies. But after some web search I think this one is Tiger longwing (Heliconius hecale).
f/2.8, 1/2000 sec. ISO-320.

Bonjour Kari,
C'est beaucoup plus facile de les photographier lorsqu'ils se reposent sur une fleur ou sur une feuille, mais de les prendre ainsi en plein vol, très nettement, cela relève de l'exploit.

Hello Kari,
Most butterflies shown on TE are sitting on a twig, but you didn't choose the easy way but captured it in flight. It must be very difficult to manage such fine sharpness as here, where only the wings are slightly blurred for obvious reasons. The twig to the right is a nice complement and the blurred green leaves provide a fine background. I am sure your identification is correct.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Kari,as you know, I'm a butterfly photographer. Of course it is not easy to photograph in flight, you should have raised the ISO a lot to have times of at least 1/2000, but logically the butterflies do not wait..hahaha .. a species that I have never photographed, really very beautiful, the details on the central part they are still good. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Kari,
Such a lovely, charming butterfly. Its warm colours and the white dots on its wings are wonderful and stand out well from the blurry green backdrop. Well done.

Hello Kari,
A good capture of the rust red and black butterfly in flight, obviously heading for the leaf at far right. Good use of differential focus. Tfs!

Hello My neighbour yesterday :). Good picture of the butterfly in flight. I never succeed - the butterfly have usually the wings closed or the fly away to quickly.
Kind regards MAlgo

Bonjour, cher Kari,
Félicitations pour cette prise de vue de ce papillon en plein vol (il ne fait pas de vol stationnaire à ma connaissance !).
Excellent.
Amitiés.

Hello, Kari!
Perfect timing to get this butterfly still in the air, with beautiful tones of green around it, which makes it stand out even more in this wonderful composition! Excellent job!
