River view, a photo from La Romana, East

Photographer's Note

The Chavón River is a river located to the east of the Dominican Republic. Its best view is obtained from the village called Altos de Chavón. The history of this river contains extremely interesting passages; From the origin of its name, possible corruption of the name Taino "Bomana", until its use by known pirates to hide treasures, passing through its use from colonial times to transport the precious woods that were cut in the forests of its basin. At present the mouth of the river is dominated by the town of Altos de Chavón and at its exit is located the spectacular marina of Casa de Campo. After the dam of the river located on the bridge that crosses it we find a tropical space that can be visited in pleasant ships that transport tourists who want to enjoy the calm waters. It is a fairly large river that is born in the interior of the country to flow into the Caribbean Sea on the outskirts of the city of La Romana Some areas of this river served as stage in the filming of films like Apocalypse Now.

VISTA FIUME

Panoramica sul Fiume Chavon dalle alture del paesino Altos de Chavon. Il fiume nasce nella parte interna della Repubblica Dominicana ed arriva a gettarsi nel Mar dei Caraibi all'altezza della città di La Romana. Rio de Chavon è noto per aver ospitato alcune scene dei film Apocalypse Now, Rambo 2 e Anaconda.

Un paesaggio estremamente suggestivo, le cui rive sono coperte dalla selva tropicale semi arida e la fauna selvatica vi circonda ovunque. Il letto del fiume è circondato da uno spettacolare canyon, ma tranquilli, niente piranha o coccodrilli, se siete fortunati potete avvistare tartarughe d'acqua dolce, falchi pescatore o avvoltoi. Ciò che rende famoso il fiume è il bellissimo paese di Altos de Chavón, sulla parte superiore della scogliera. Un villaggio dalle fattezze mediterranee costruito nel mezzo della natura dominicana. Il borgo fu progettato negli anni ’70 dall’italiano Roberto Coppa e rappresenta uno degli spettacoli unici al mondo. La distanza è di circa 100 km da Santo Domingo ed un’ora da Bayahibe.

Ciao caro Luciano,

I'm sure you were wishing that the lantern was on the further corner so that it would not interfere with your capture of the focal couple, so well placed in your frame. I do like the fact that they are in matching colours, combining them as one focal image.
The scenery around is verdant and artistically divided by the guiding curves of the river.

I didn't expect to see a view like this from the Dominican Republic; we usually see beaches and palm trees. I'm sure there is lots of interesting nature in the interior part of the country, and this view is part of it. I like all the greenery, and your inclusion of the two people on the left. The small, stone area where they are standing is charming, and I like the lamp, too.

Interesting bluffs overlooking the river. So this is where Apocalypse Now was filmed. I remember seeing that film when I was living in Turkey.

One thought crossed my mind when first opened the thumbnail, Luciano: Why there is a lamp on this balcony? maybe a meeting point for romantic couple? they would not need it.
Anyway, the sight from this veranda is awesome, the river and green fields beautifully shown from this high spot. Easily could had thought it is in Europe.

Most probably that lady went to hide behind the lantern at the very last moment.
The level difference between both banks of the river is remarkably large.
Beautiful green landscape at both sides.
To me this is a bit of an unusual and surprising image of the Dominican Republic. So I appreciate it all the more.

Thats a great composed image having lush green natural environment all around. Though I would prefer to see a bit more space in upper side of the valley. The tourists are very well captured by you. Lighting and contrast is very nice.

Luciano, a panoramic viewpoint offers stunning views on the river Chavon. Pastures occupy one bank where as a riparian tropical forest grows on the opposite bank. Pleasant nature photo, appealing green hues.
