Pale Sunset with Pelican, a photo from Kingston, Surrey

Photographer's Note

On my way back into Kingston one wet evening in October, I was lucky enough to catch a fantastic, almost monochrome, image of a pelican on a boat silhouetted against a watery fading sun. I had to get out of traffic, find a safe spot to park and run back to the point with the composition I’d just seen. All the time I was hoping the pelican would stay put – he did and was joined by a seagull.

As a bonus, as I was running I found the eastern sky still bright but stormy with a rainbow gracing the waterfront. I caught the pelican in the new view and then, as I got up to the boat, I was lucky enough to find another pelican flying by (see my next posts).

an attractive view shot of very calm and lovely scene,
direct sun light makes rich silhouette of the boat and a bird on it, those look floating on the shining water quietly and settled,
wide sky and water make beautiful space like paintings of Impressionism,

Hello Mary,

A photograph of atmosphere, a finely managed back-light I find, I like much the impression of calm which comes out from this image. Compared to the two other compositions it is this one which carries my adhesion, on the vertical photo, although the sky is pleasant, which obstructs it to me is this kind of basket in water in the foreground… Thank you Mary.

piacevole composizione con ottima gestione del controluce.
Simpatico il pellicano sulla barca. Sembra quasi volersi fare un giro :))

Di solito io sono abituato a vedere i gabbiani sul mare.

Deve essere molto bello qui vedere questi grandi volatili volteggiare sopra il mare con le ali tutte aperte.

The silver tones of this sunset are really fantastic, and give a very attractive atmosphere to this beautiful landscape, in a great composition that includes the buildings, the boat, and a pelican that adds a funny vital touch to the photo.

Hi Mary.
Wonderful sunset in these silver tones that has an atmosphere of calm and tranquility, I like the short coastline on backlit on the left side, giving full importance to the sea and sky. A solitary boat preciousness with the pelican in her.
