Photographer's Note

I have uploaded pictures of Stad Amsterdam before. But as it is now possible to do it in bigger size I decided to show one more.
Stad Amsterdam is a three-mast clipper that was built in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 2000 at the Damen Oranjewerf. She was built to replicate best qualities of clippers of the past, outfitted and built with modern techniques but with a classic 'look and feel'. Stad Amsterdam won the 2001 Cutty Sark Tall Ships' Race.

It's a beautiful ship, carefully made to look like the old ones. They made one in Göteborg too some years ago and sailed it across the world.. This one looks fantastic in this light and with those colours behind it.

Beautiful idea to show this ship like this, in silhouette it's easier to appreciate the craftmanship and engineering of the boat. The sky is superb with is dark coffee colors. The ship has an eerie feeling to it like this which I love

A fine shot of this beautiful ship. You have chosen well the lighting and got a wonderful and mystic mood with fine silhouettes of the ship against the partly dark, partly orange bakcground. Lovely work:) TFS.

Hello Kari,
I have seen this ship once or twice in Amsterdam. You captured it here beautifully against the warm colours of the sky. It's a very clear silhouette and you placed it nicely in an off-centred position.

ah man!!!!! what I would do to be able to photograph this beast! what a beautiful piece of 'modern' art. love the old look but with modern techs in it.

and as for the photo itself, its a doozy! love the soft orange glow of light and the silhouette is A+

Hello Kari

As a sailor myself (though not on anything this large and grand!), I couldn't pass this one by. The silhouette against the setting sun picks out the details of the rigging perfectly, and the overall composition is both beautiful and romantic. Nice one.

A fantastic sunset of orange skies contrasting well with the deep grey blue bottom of the image. Good sharpness and wonderful graphic elements of the dark silhouetted schooner against the lighter toned sky. Tfs!

Hello Kari,
I also have some pictures of the Stad Amsterdam of last year when it was the admiral’s ship of Amsterdam Sail 2015.
But here at sea is where it should be. The sunset is a fantastic background. Only full sails could approve this awesome picture.

What a beautiful tall ship. The silhouette against that magnificent sunset looks so beautiful. I like the position within the frame, slightly right of centre, the colours are natural and well-saturated and the image is nice and sharp despite the low light.
