Photographer's Note
Not that many shots of Butrint on TE (25) so here's another. This is the ancient Greek Theatre. There is a boardwalk over the original earthen floor as it is only a few centimetres above high tide level and is often marshy. The ancient Greek name for the city was 'Buthrotum'. It dates from the 4th century BC. It became a Roman protectorate in 228 BC.

Corfu is directly west of the ruins.

Hi Chris
there is really something wrong with TE, it just doesn't have the # of members it used to have. your photo here has been posted for 4.5 hours, and i'm the first to give it 2 points...thats not right. and its an excellent scene too.
amazingly old and ancient, amazing its still in good shape.
great to have the lady in blue to give your shot some life. a really attractive scene and wonderful subject.
cheers

Hi Chris
Now this is more interesting than the beach one. Great little theatre. Good POV with just the one main person.
Cheers

Hello Chris, Nice view of the theater in Butrint. Charming composition with the just one visitor. I have many photos from there but I had not the time to show them, as is always the case with me. And no time to look at the archive when the new pictures are still coming.

Hello Chris,
I had a quick look at my photos from Butrint, and I didn't see any worth posting here, so I am partly responsible for the lack of photos from this interesting place. This is not one of the most impressive Greek theaters, but it's quite charming and the surroundings are really nice. The lone woman enhances the photo considerably. The yellowish corrugated iron floor is not beautiful, but maybe they had no choice.

Gert

Hello Chris,
An excellent composition where the elegantly dressed lady is a key element, both in terms of providing a focal point and supplying some contrasting colour amidst the grey stones. Very well exposed with fine colour contrasts and good sharpness.

Hello Chris,
Wow, those Romans were architects of the highest calibre as well as being well drilled soldiers!! To think that this theatre has survived all these years says something about the quality of their design and workmanship!
I like how you have composed the photograph, showing the tiers of seating, rising like an opening fan!
The lady is important by scaling and animating the photograph.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Great capture of this theatre, I think it is the theatre "of one spectator" :)
I like your high POV and excellent quality of the photo

Hi Chris,
I was recently thinking about various holiday destinations and what could I do if I got there. Corfu is relatively cheap for family holidays and the trip across to Albania is an option to see a different country.
Sarande and Butrint are probably typical excursions from Corfu.
So I have looked at Butrint photos in Google Image search... well in the past I used mainly TE but now people are to creative sometimes to learn from their photos about the world. Having said that I always learn from your photos a lot :)
So I looked at Butrint photos and I noticed this place is quite interesting historically but it seems it is extremely difficult to take a good photo there. I have seen just this amphitheater and another place with some mosaic on the ground which are photogenic.
Well now after this long introduction I just wanted to say that it is a brilliant composition with the lady in light blue dress and huge hat having a gracious pose holding the hat.
The light blue colors adds so much life to the ruins. A person adds life but this color makes it really into a beautiful picture.
I must remember to tell my wife to dress in a bright colored dress for this trip :)

Bonsoir Chris,
La présence de la personne a un effet d'échelle de grandeur. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails du théâtre. La lumière embellit les couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirée.

Hello Chris,
One of the smaller theatres constructed by the Greek.
But the presentation is excellent. You took the picture from a good angle and included a part of the green surroundings.
What makes the view most attractive, I think, is the lady in blue sitting on the ideal place.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Chris,
Familiar scenery in yet another country, those ancient Greeks left the marks of their civilization all around the Mediterranean, didn't they?
