Photographer's Note

Left on the horizon you can see the part of Karaburun's Penicula north coast. On the right there is a mistery Sazan Island both drowned in the blackness of hot summer's early evening.

In 1960's when Albania was in the soviet sphere Russians built a secret military base on the Sazan Island. In late 1970's, when Enver Hodja broke "friendship" with USSR off albanian navy took it over.
I'm not sure if it's true, but it's said that in 1991, after successful comunism fell in Albania, Americans wanted to BUY (paying with cash!) this island with whole it's infrastructure.
Albanians said "NO, that's out!".
World changes and nowadays it's abandoned. Daily cruises from Vlore to visit the island are organized by local tourist offices.

Picture was shot from pension's terrace.
