The photo shows the start of a drive to Balgerhoeke between Maldegem and Eeklo

Steam train Maldegem-Eeklo (formerly known as the Steam Center Maldegem) is the center of a historic railway line on the former station site in Maldegem, Belgium.

The railway line with the line number 58 used to be operated by the NMBS and connected Ghent with Bruges. The rise of the car heralded the decline that lasted until 1959, when passenger traffic between Eeklo and Bruges was replaced by buses. The last passenger train left for Bruges on February 26, 1959, around 9:30 PM. Although the Maldegem - Bruges section was broken out in the early 1960s, freight trains continued to run between Eeklo and Maldegem until 26 April 1988.

Hi John.

Quite a story of the rail station. Surprises me that the line was discontinued and replaced by bus service. Passing across the tracks is both, dangerous and against the law!!!!

The presence of the persons is animating the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the steam locomotive. There is a good contrast between the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

Hello John,
The old steam engine is beautifully painted and looks like it is perfectly maintained. Vintage trains and cars are usually taken very good care of by their owners, almost like small babies. The steam creates an exciting atmosphere and the persons probably about to set out on the journey connect us all with the old train. The colours are well saturated and quite bright in spite of the dull weather.

Een mooie foto van deze oude stoomtrein, die hier zijn naam eer aandeed en ook daadwerkelijk veel stoom uitstootte. Mooie kleuren ook en de mensen op en voor het perron doen het ook goed op de foto.

Hallo John, that historic steam train line becomes a tourist attraction nowadays. The visitors are immersed in the atmosphere of the past. The coaches interior should be interesting to see. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hello John,

Just the sight of a little steam, in conjunction with a huge engine, and we are captured!
I'm not sure why but, steam engines command such interest. Maybe it is nostalgia, maybe it is history, maybe it is just the sheer power of these huge engines but, we love them!
I like how you have included a figure, fearlessly hurrying across the rails, for us to follow to the focal image, all of which are sharp and colourful.
Maybe, I would have cropped a little off the l/h side, to place the engine further into the frame.

Hoi John, volop nostalgie hier. De timing is sterk met de kop van de locomotief gehuld in stoom. En de mensen in het frame ankeren de plaat mooi in de tegenwoordige tijd. De belichting is ook goed onder controle - de stoom onderscheid zich mooi van de lucht. Groeten uit Rotterdam, Bert.

Dag John This old train 'galore' is a beautiful souvenir of my early childhood. Everytime I went very close to a steam engine, holding the hand of my father and waiting for my aunt to come off of the wagon, I was so impressed by this huge mechanism, the slipping wheels at start up anf by the white fumes around me! You posted a very nice tribute to history!! Vrindelijke groeten.

Hello John,
Everyone must have enjoyed seeing those steam trains. The plumes of steam actually remind me of the steam chimneys we see on the streets of NYC. :-) The sky was cloudy, but the steam is still clearly visible, and the people add extra life to the scene.

Hi John.

The old red rattlers as they were called were steam trains used in Brisbane up until 1972, when they were replaced by diesel. In 1985 they in turn were replaced by electric trains. Good sharpness and diffused light. Tfs!

That is one intriguing moment, John, very dynamoic and the subject is interesting.
we do not have running steam-engines in Israel, only one in a museum, and I never seen one riding.
