History: picture 2015

My photo was taken on the back with the small gate as an exit.

The collection of the Groeninge Museum originated from the Bruges Academy of Drawing and Painting, which brought together a large number of works from mainly the second half of the 18th century, including by Joseph-Benoît Suvée and Joseph Odevaere. At the beginning of the 19th century, the collection was supplemented with a number of important panels from the Flemish primitives, including Jan van Eyck, Hans Memling and Gerard David. During the second half of the 19th century, the Academy handed over everything to the City of Bruges, which founded the current Groeninge Museum in 1930. The collection grew further over the years, thanks to other significant transfers, such as from the Archaeological Society, and striking legacies and donations. In addition, a well-thought out purchasing and loan policy has been implemented to date, which reinforces the international image.

I hope that you enjoy it
