DAMME
I took this picture this afternoon, during a cold but sunny day minus 3° Celsius, this was a good bicycle trip 32 KM
Our Lady's Church
Heavy loads
In 1578 Damme was captured and plundered by the Geuzen. The church was later restored, but did not recover. the population decreased noticeably, especially when Damme also became a garrison town of the Spaniards. The burdens for the great church were too heavy for the community. Part of the monumental house of God was demolished, including the spire. Now the remaining dividing walls between main and side aisles give an idea of the size of the original church.
I hope you like it

Hallo John,

Hello John,
The church is beautiful, but the gap between the tower and the main part of the building makes it look a bit strange. I like the distant view which makes the foreground just as important as the church. The ice on the pond and the frost on the lawn, plus the clear blue sky, tell us of a beautiful but slightly cold day.
Stockholm is colder, about -8 today, but I didn't go 32 km by bicycle.
Best regards,
Gert

Hallo John,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi John,
beautiful composition. The architecture is splendid and so well framed with the naked trees. The tower almost pretends to be one of the tree trunks, having also similar color. Beautiful weather day. The sky so eye catching. Excellent clarity and sharpness.
Great work!

Pozdrav.
Interesantan i lep pogled, dobar tekst ...
Lepo mesto sa zaledjenom vodom, velikim drvecem i arhitekturom u pozadini u jednom hladnom danu sa suncem, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontrastom, perspektivom i uhvacenim trenutkom.
Lepa fotografija i stara Crkva.
Dobar tekst o koriscenoj tehnici i elementima snimka.
Zelim vam sve najbolje.
Paja.

Hallo John,
Looks a bit chilly! Good perspective with the verticals placed centrally. Excellent sharpness and the gaunt trees nicely frame the bg church and it's tall bell tower. Tfs!

Hello John, You make your bike trips in spite of the wintertime. Nice view of this little pond with the frozen surface and the high grasses. Interesting view of this church with the impressive big tower. it looks rather cold but fantastic with the blue sky. Now in Warsaw minus 13 degrees. I rather stay at home.
Best regards MAlgo

Hello John,
You have captured details of a lovely winter's day, when the bright sunshine is tempered by the details of the icy f/g. We perfectly understand that though it is sunny, the temperatures are very cool!
You know me, I love photographs which use winter trees for their strong character details and where they are used to anchor the f/g for a sense of depth. They almost frame the b/g details of the church, a most attractive focal point.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello John, a clear winter’s day where the light is perfect.
A lovely view across to the church. Thank you for the explanation as to why the tower is separate from the main body of the building, it’s most unusual.
The foreground gives us lots of natural colours and textures, and we can peek through the tree trunks to see the distant church.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards,Jean.

Dag John,

Hi John,
A well framed scene of this old church on sunny winter weather. Frozen puddle with some dry reeds makes a good foreground. Tree trunk on the right gives good framing.

Hi John.
A beautiful and large church, despite having lost part of its ensemble, magnificent POV capturing it between the trunks of the trees, a light layer of snow or frost gives it the touch of winter.
A magnificent color, which gives the image a lot of chromatic richness.
Optimal management of lighting and sharpness, with a good perspective.
Well done. I like it.
Have a nice day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello John,
The church is fine, but I find those "hairy" trees more interesting.
