I took this picture this afternoon, during a cold but sunny day minus 3° Celsius, this was a good bicycle trip 32 KM

Around Damme: second picture of the same afternoon

The Eighty Years' War (1568-1648) left many traces in the landscape of the Zwin region: cities were fortified; fortresses, fortifications, lines served to hold back the enemy; areas were flooded. Between 1615 and 1620, the center of Damme was fortified with a seven-star wall. The ramparts have been a defining feature of the city to this day.
After Damme's military importance disappeared, various biotopes developed in the canals. From open water, floating docks, moist meadows, meadows and reed beds to swamp forests. A beautiful piece of nature! A large part of the fortress is now nature reserve 'De Stadswallen van Damme'. Part of it has been reconstructed and is open to the public. An educational walking path runs through the site, which covers 28 hectares. Info panels reveal both the cultural-historical and ecological aspects. Nice to know: the walking path is also accessible for wheelchair users and prams.

a very smart use of elements with the repetition of trunks above and the waters in the lower part of the compo. a marvelous slice of nature.

Hallo John,
Ik vermoed dat ik deze brug ook gezien heb bij mijn eerste bezoek aan Damme maar dat is al een tijdje geleden.
Je foto toont een prachtig landschap bestaande uit heel veel bomen, veel water, wat riet en een beetje weiland.
De compositie is heel goed met de zachte bocht van het water en we zien een prachtig kleurverschil tussen de goudgele plantengroei en het besneeuwde grasveld links.
Mooie weerspiegeling van de hoge bomen in het midden van het water.

Hello John,
The river/canal makes a nice bend before floating under the bridge. The trees are beautifully reflected in the calm water, which is surrounded by a lawn and some snow on one side and yellow dry reeds on the other. Some of these reeds are nicely seen in the foreground. The light was entirely in your favour.

a beautiful spot indeed! I like very much the composition with the truncated trees and main focus on the vivid reflection. I like how the grass in the foreground stands out from the darker background.

Hallo John,
Een foto van nog niet zo lang geleden toen het zonnig en koud was, maar inmiddels staat de lente ook alweer voor de deur. De spiegelingen van de bomen in het kalme water zijn heel mooi en het riet langs de oever heeft een aangename warme gloed.

This is one of your lockdown masterpieces!
The strength of the many and varied verticals is immense! They guide us from the f/g, they act as a backstop to keep us interested in the scene, and they appear as reflections in the shimmering water!
Though the weather is obviously cold, the warm colours make the scene very welcoming.

Hello John, the reflected lines of the trees and the blue sky fill the foreground, contrasting with the orange colour of the dried reeds that surround the water.
It is super sharp. A distinctive shot that is easily recognisable as one of yours.

Beautiful photo, beautiful place. Here we can see that over the years nature has adapted to the changes made by human beings.

The canal is really beautiful and pleasant, it must be a very beautiful place to visit. From what we observed it was very cold, as there is still snow remnants on the banks of the channel.

Beautiful view of this little canal and a bridge across it. Those reed have wonderful golden tone. Blue tone of remaining snow in shadows make interesting contrast with green grass.

A marvel of composition, ideally that thickness of the tree trunks and their fantastic reflections in the canal, the bridge gives a romantic touch and the plants on the banks with their reddish color, without a doubt it is a complement that completes the beautiful work.
Good perspective of the image, very pleasing to the eye.
Colorful, sharpness and luminosity are captured effectively.

this is one of those photos where the longer you look at it the more and more I like it and respect it. the lighting is just to good, with pops of color even way into the bg. and there's a slight curve and motion to the image too. wonderful. cheers
