Walking around Ghent during visit of ST Nicolas .
Every year the city of Ghent welcomes Sinterklaas during the Joyful Entry.
Sinterklaas arrives in Ghent with a tourist boat. The Saint is of course welcomed by the mayor and his ships from Festivities.
Then the Saint makes a trip with the carriage through the city center, accompanied by a fanfare. Afterwards, the children can participate in all sorts of Sinterklaas activities.
Nowadays it is a fixed value that a few weeks before 6 December Sinterklaas will be festively welcomed by the children.
The entry is a Sinterklaas tradition that has come over from the Netherlands a few decades ago.
The first Sinterklaas introductions were held in the Netherlands in the 19th century.
I hope that you enjoy it

Dag John,
Leuke sfeervolle foto.

Hello John,
This a way of starting Christmas which is unknown in my country, although we are not so far away. I am surprised that Belgium has taken this tradition from the Netherlands so recently. In Sweden we seem to take all new traditions from the USA. Also, in Sweden the figures with blackened faces would be regarded as highly politically incorrect. But having Sinterklaas arrive by boat is of course a great idea for this city of canals. It is a nice photo in any case, as sharp and well exposed as ever.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi John,
I appreciate the reflections on the water. You have captured well the movement of the boat. The point of view is showing the details of St.Nicolas. Have a nice day.

Hallo John,

Saluti

Hi John
What I want to know is - did Sinterklaas pay for his ticket on the boat? A good photo, especially with those wavy reflections.
cheers

Bonjour, cher ami John,

Hello John,
Sinterklaas or Santa Claus, is always a big draw for children and a wonderful tradition to maintain, to introduce Christmas festivities and begin the whole excitement of Christmas.
This is a superb photograph of Sinterklaas arriving by boat.
The occupants and the boat are pin sharp, their craft making waves in the water, to disturb the reflections and make them ripple.
I like how the boat creates a thick, detail-laden diagonal.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Dag John,
A good angled pov and like Sweden, the blackface would draw sharp criticism in Australia. But it's a nice Christmas tradition featuring St Nicholas aka Santa Claus making an early appearance. Tfs!

Hello John,
So, St. Nick uses boats in Ghent. I guess he parks his sleigh at the airport.

Holidays spirit picture of the boat cruising the Ghent canal, John.
The costumes gave an added beautiful colors to the scene over the brown water and grey bricks.

Hello John, Nice beginning of the Christmas time with this boat. Nice view of Santa Claus in his traditional red dress. I see that the kids are young artists, playing on various instruments. And why there are two black people (I suppose that they are painted). Charming picture.
Kind regards MAlgo

Hallo John, the picture presents a tradition i didn t know so far. Sinterklaas can be compared to the pere noel. He arrives on a boat in the city accompanied by musicians. I see a violonist and two persons with body paintings wearing fancy dresses, they play flute. What a strange crew. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.
