Biketrip to this Castle 22 km of my home.

Castel Santa Maria

The castle Santa Maria was built in 1938, and completed in 1940. It was built by the baron Jaques de Crombrugghe de Looringhe and his wife Marie-Louise van Caloen de Basseghem. The baron was judge of 1st instance in Bruges and came from Ichtegem. He built the castle because he wanted a summer residence close to Bruges. His wife was the daughter of the landlord of the castle "Ter Straeten" that was demolished in the 70s and became a modern villa. Now we know it mainly from the sports complex that is on the front farmlands of the original castle. The naming comes from the ship the 'Santa Maria' with which Christopher Columbus discovered America.

Interesantan i lep pogled, dobar tekst ...
lepo pokazano, dobra perspektiva i kontrast, lepe boje, lepo uhvacen trenutak.
Lep refleks na vodi i stara arhitektura.

Hallo John,
Ik denk dat je dit kasteel vroeger ook eens getoond hebt maar dan wel lang geleden.
Het is weerom een prachtige foto met een mooi spiegelbeeld in de vijver. De rechthoekige vorm van de tuin die grenst aan het water is speciaal en opvallend.
Het mooie herfstzicht werd ingekaderd door de takken links en rechts met de vele geelachtige tinten van de bladeren. Ook op het water drijven heel wat bladeren.
Uitstekende scherpte, helderheid en compositie.

Hello John, a very beautiful scene, and I notice that you took it 9 years ago! The trees in their autumn colours frame the castle and the moat, channelling our eyes towards the group of buildings. And the bonus of a clear reflection.

These beautiful buildings are perfectly reflected in the calm water. They are very nicely located and from this point you used the trees cleverly to frame the view. The quite heavy clouds made the colours pleasantly mild. As always it's a perfectly sharp photo.

Less of a castle, more a stately home perhaps; in any event an impressive and elegant building on its own island. I like the framing offered by the trees still in their autumn foliage. Pleasant soft lights and colours and very good sharpness.

Dag John,
Een bijzonder kasteeltje, gedeeltelijk van baksteen en gedeeltelijk wit gepleisterd. En ook nog zo mooi geplaatst op een rechthoekig eilandje wat de mogelijkheid geeft voor een fraaie spiegeling. De laatste herfstkleuren doen de rest voor deze zeer geslaagde foto.

Hello John,

It may be a modern castle but it still makes a strong, attractive feature in your photograph.
I love how you have composed the scene, using the surrounding autumn branches as a natural frame, creating also, a great sense of depth.
The colours are rich and the details wonderfully clear.
Not to be missed is the almost mirror image in the moat.
A very very attractive photograph! I'm surprised that you have kept it in your archives for so long!

Il est vraiment très beau ce petit château sur son île artificielle au centre d'un beau bassin très bien dessiné. J'aime le cadre végétal tout autour qui concentre bien vers le sujet.

Hallo John, that elegant castle is encircled by moats. A bridge connects it to the mainland. A forest is planted in the property. Nice reflections on the water. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.
