Archive 2007 Summer picture from Ghent
The Vrijdagmarkt (Friday market) in the Belgian city of Ghent is one of the oldest squares in the city. The square played a major role in the history of the city.
The Vrijdagmarkt (Friday market) is about one hectare in size. In the middle of the square stands a statue of Jacob van Artevelde who proclaimed King Edward III of England king of France on the square on January 26, 1340, defying the authority of the count of Flanders and his liege lord. Five years later, weavers and fullers assassinated each other on this square as a prelude to the murder of James van Artevelde, the wise man of Ghent.
I hope that you enjoy it

Hello John,
I get curious about the couple to the right, whether they are studying the menu or found something else interesting to watch. I always like details that could tell a story. The cobbled street makes a good lead along the row of nice buildings up to the large building with the magnificent window. The photo also gets good depth from the lamppost and the folded parasolls on the left side. In spite of the cloudy sky the light and colours are excellently handled.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi John,
The cobblestone street is send ing my eyes toward the building in the background which is creating depth. You have captured well the action of the people. The point of view is showing the details of the terrasses and of the buildings. Have a nice day.

Hallo John,
Dit plein in Gent kan ik me nog goed herinneren, vooral dankzij het grote gebouw aan het eind van de straat. De voorgrond is mooi in balans met de gevels rechts en de terrassen links. De mensen zorgen voor een aangename sfeer.

Hello John,
Excellent picture from your archive. I suppose that this market looks the3 same after 11 years. I like how the three people in colourful dresses lead us to the wonderful window at the end of the street. Superb quality.

Dag John,
Groet, Rob

Hi John
Mundane everyday market scene enriched by some vivid colour and a good show of beautiful olde architecture as an icing on the roll. All neatly aligned with sense of depth full of liveliness. Excellent shot with helpful info, Congrats

Hello John,
The calm mood of the market bears no witness to the horrific deeds that have occurred here, in the past!
You have used your photographic knowledge to its best by including the old cobbled road so effectively, for it guides us irresistibly from the f/g to the b/g, ensuring that the crisp details of the buildings and outdoor dining furniture are perused and enjoyed. There are many figures, employed in a variety of activities, to interest us and animate the scene.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello John,
You have written a fascinating note about this particular area of Ghent and shown us a delightful photograph of this Friday market.
This is a finely composed photograph, the cobbled roadway leading the eye nicely into the depths of the image where the busy part of the market can be seen at the left, while the elegant buildings on the right frame the picture with some colourfully dressed people adding foreground interest on the right.
Lovely soft light, rich colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. I hope that you and your family had a Happy Christmas. May I take this opportunity to wish you all a Very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year when it comes!

Ciao John
la luce non è nelle migliori condizioni, ma sufficiente per ottenere un'ottima foto, con una bella prospettiva e una scena che attira l'attenzione.

Hello John,
A superb shot of the outdoor Ghent market with excellent sharpness. The curving flagstone street adds splendid lead in lines and linear perspective towards French styled building at the back. Looks like a nice area for al fresco dining too. Tfs!

Hi John
we see many photos from you in this region and town, but this one looks completely new, perhaps its a little off the beaten main path :) I like the light bulbs on the far left, the chairs, the long cobble stone walking path, the overall textures and sharpness. Good cloud coverage too. nice shot
cheers

Hallo John, that square in Ghent center is popular and houses some cafes and restaurants. These establishments install their terraces in the public area. They consist in chairs and tables under umbrellas. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.
