DAMME

I took this picture three weeks ago, during a cold but sunny day minus 3° Celsius, this was a good bicycle trip 32 KM

Around Damme, fourth photo of my bicycle trip,

A small bridge over the little canal, only for bikers and walkers, with the nature in background, real a rural area.

The Eighty Years' War (1568-1648) left many traces in the landscape of the Zwin region: cities were fortified; fortresses, fortifications, lines served to hold back the enemy; areas were flooded. Between 1615 and 1620, the centre of Damme was fortified with a seven-star wall. The ramparts have been a defining feature of the city to this day.
After Damme's military importance disappeared, various biotopes developed in the canals. From open water, floating docks, moist meadows, meadows and reed beds to swamp forests. A beautiful piece of nature! A large part of the fortress is now nature reserve 'De Stadswallen van Damme'. Part of it has been reconstructed and is open to the public. An educational walking path runs through the site, which covers 28 hectares. Info panels reveal both the cultural-historical and ecological aspects. Nice to know: the walking path is also accessible for wheelchair users and prams.

Hello John, my neighbour today.
I like the way that you have used the width of the bridge to fill the foreground, nicely leading us deep into the shot.
Strong lines of the vertical trees and the diagonals of the bridge.
Excellent sharpness, as always.

Nog even terug naar de winterse week met sneeuw dat hier nog aan beide kanten van het bruggetje ligt. Het warme zonlicht is ook heel aangenaam. Mooi landschap.

Hello John,
A nice view of the narrow bridge crossing the canal and the road continuing between two of the three eye-catching trees. There is a pleasant light falling on the wooden railing on the left side. The narrow strips of snow remind us it was a cold day in winter. The photo has a fine depth, the colours are nice and the photo has a fine clarity.

Hallo John,
De zon verlicht de houten railing links en zorgt er voor warme tinten.
Doch de resterende sneeuw doet ons terug denken aan de heldere dagen met vriestemperaturen.
De planten aan de overzijde hebben eveneens een kleur die mooi contrasteert met de blauwe lucht.
Ik meen me deze brug in Damme te herinneren ... Maar mogelijk heb jij nog een andere ontdekt.

Your photograph takes complete charge of us, the viewers!
Your careful composition ensures that we follow your guidance across the bridge to the far side.
It is amazing, for the bridge occupies the whole f/g and yet, when we land on the other side we find ourselves one third into the scene!!
It's a fantastic composition, very well exposed with delightful sunlight colours on the bridge railings.

I would expert to see some snow left in the shade on this small bride even it was minus 3 celsius..
I'm sure it's a wonderful place for walking, with the nature and the vast breathtaking countryside, no matter what seasons. I do believe that each season has its own charm to discover and enjoy.

Hi John,
what a beautiful day it was! I like how you have used the bridge and its rails to lead the eye to the centre. The trees add here a repeated motif of a trunk. Without the branches the can pretend to be palm trees as well.
