Despite drizzling rain several men had gathered on a square in Sarajevo last week for a game of chess. Only two men were actually playing, but all the onlookers seemed to have clear ideas about the next move.
In a workshop you can see the whole scene.

I love the expressions of concentration and the way the men are standing. Focusing in on these two has worked really well, with the section of chess board and pieces explaining the situation.

Hello Gert,
these two photos remind me of a big chessboard in Stockholm :) Anyway I am less observant than you, so I never took a singlу photo of chess players...
I like these two, deep in thought... they don't even seem to notice the rain!
It's very interesting to watch people at such moments. They think so thoroughly that it seems as if the fate of the whole world is at stake! :)

Hi Gert,

The game of chess wins. The men do seem to be in a deep thought, the man in the background does seem to care about the drizzle but the players dont.

I do not believe I could have help them here, but I get the impression that one of the black pawns is in a threatened position. But the photo conveys a lot of concentration anyway. A fine observation!

Hi Gert!I observed almost with attention and studied your two pictures. I have concluded certain things. possibly I am excessive, but these moments, they have a sociability of medium age of also on men, that we see in a lot of countries as in mine, It has the meaning of contact between the individuals in 'agora΄coffe-shop' and center-plate from ancientest years.

A very good composition showing intense concentration - even though these 2 men are probably observers rather than players. I approve of the man in the background as he confirms the weather conditions and strengthens the obsession shown by the 2 observers. Maybe the blue area at top right could have been cloned out. after seeing the workshop picture, I appreciate even more the way you isolated the two gentlemen at the side of the chessboard. Chess is a passion, it's interesting to see one of them leaning on a walking cane, trying to figure out solutions for the game. I like the peacefulness of the harmonious colours and that you included several pieces in the foreground. It's interesting that the two gentlemen are looking in different directions, considering different schemes. Congratulations and thank you!

here the retired men never would play chess. near my work they play cards for hours. unfortunately they are hidden from my camera. haha.
nice flagrant, even the rain can't stop them. curious the public around. impressive daily life shot.
