going somewhere, a photo from Haskovo, East

Photographer's Note

It was a cold saturday and I was walking on the streets of Haskovo, shooting like a tourist in the downtown area. After few captures, I decided to go a little bit far to see something different than the usual. I finally found this calm street where some children played with snow balls and a guy was passing by. Going where? (I captured the children, still working on the bad quality image to see if it's suitable to be in here).

I'm surprised there is only one post from Haskovo. Hey, where are you, bulgarians from Haskovo?

Tech note: I was listening to Billy Corgan - The Future Embrace while post-processing this image, that's probably why it has some dark feeling.

Oi, Carlos,
Hum ... quer dizer que o Senhor foi bem longe, heim! ..:-)). Muito legal esta foto meio em B&W, pois as cores vão desaparecendo. Gostei, muito interessante e bonita, mas não quero morar num lugar assim, parece ser um lugar sem vida e cores. Para nós, brasileiros, isto não dá certo ...:-))) Um abraço, Consuelo

apt BW tone choice and keeping that unusual pink colored car in its original state. must be different from what curitiba is experiencing now, weatherwise..and yeah go get yourself flu-vaccinated, now!!...:-)

Yes, it looks like a grey cold day, but I like the dark feeling of it... real winter. Nice catch of the passer-by from that balustrade covered by snow...
From time to time is good to experience the harsh climate of these northern areas, don’t you think? ;)

Com um tempo desses eu certamente que não sairia à rua, nem para fotografar!
Mas o que interessa é que tu foste corajoso e saíste para captar esta bela imagem. Só que eu teria deixado de fora todo o parapeito de neve do fundo da foto.

For the picture - good B&W choice, I like the perspective also. The atmosphere is a bit oppressive, but this is common during the winter days.

Interesting photo! Yes, perhaps it became a bit dark (I mean the mood), but I like it a lot.
I found the most interesting that it's not completely B&W, the Skoda has some colours... The POV and the composition are fantastic, adding a lonely soul to it was an absolutely great idea. I also like that he is the darkest subject in the photo! :) Nice framing too.

Já tou a ver que vieste para o frio da europa , Bulgaria deve ser um pais bastante interessante pertenceu a europa de leste , a tua foto ficou bem gelada foi duro te habituares ao frio negativo ?,
ficou bem interessante o teu ponto de visão com a estrada a desaparecer debaixo do ramos com o homem a caminhar , bem antigo o carro vermelho estacionado deve ser de 1950 :) , parabens!!!

and welcome back! At first I thought it was a b&w but it's not; and it's great for me to know that somewhere else in the world the sky is dark/gray and the colours are totally flatten as I'm experiencing here in manchester..you really made my day! ;o)
Straight to the point this is a good shot well composed with the man walking by on a street which we can't see the end. The grey sky along the snow on the ground brings in a cold winter atmosphere!

what were you doing in bulgaria in january?? who goes there in winter, m? :)) very dark and gloomy feeling indeed. i can see how that song has affected your PP choices. the slightly reddish car is a nice touch in this otherwise BW composition.

so you are struggling around in old Europe in this time of the year when you could be at home drinking caprinha:s at the beach :)
It seems that you have chosen to captured the greyness of central European boredom. the man makes this image , I just wished colour on the "red" car and you would have something that breaks up the image a bit. The composition is classic in the way of making people unsecured, Please look at the famous Norwegian artist Edward Munch most well known painting "the scream" and you will se.

I am glad you found a red/brown car to put him in to the composition. Otherwise it would look like a b&w photo which was also not bad, but now it brings some life in the image which has strong lines in the vertical composition. That horizontal bar in front covered with snow brings an extra strong key in the image together with the man walking along the street.

Do I see Bulgaria ??? Man, it's a bit far from your home ! And I see you even explored nearly unknown TE territory... are you still there ?
The road perspective is great and well framed, you have that essential person walking there and the car telling it's a color picture, otherwise we could doubt.

last week,you were lazy because of the hot weather!Is it why you decided to go to Bulgaria?It's the opposite than in your coutry,here,very cold!I like the cold and quite atmosphere in this black and white street.There is a nice perspective on the street,and I like the snowy wall you have let on the foreground.The car brings a nice soft touch of colours,I like this very much!

Nice street scene. I like all the differente tones of gray. I would be tempted to crop the bottom part witch distracts my eye and i woul leave just a streep of snow. Well done indeed

So this is where you were. Quite a gloomy & cold winter atmosphere. I like the inclusion of the dark area under the snow covered ledge in the FG. It gives a good "inside" view to scene before us. The walking man & pale red colored car are some focal points here.

Yes Corgan has added some darkness, I can understand that, not really my kind of shot, but the moodiness works for me, maybe I'd crop a little from the bottom.

You are right in that the picture has a gloomy mood. But, what else in a Balkan winter? I would think this is B&W if it wasn't for the faint color of the cars. Composition is excellent, esp. the silhouette of the lone person. How would you feel about cropping the bottom just to have the snowy area? Regards,

Vejo que andou dando uma rodada trecentemente por isto estava sumido ne? Uma foto muito interessante, gosto muito da composicao incluindo na parte inferior o muro gelado, da a impressao que voce estava a espionar o cara que passava na rua. A neve e o dia escuro, mais esta aura de espionagem vao bem com a imagem que ainda tenho dos paises do leste europeu.

It looks abzolutely freezing! I don't think I could get used to weather like this. The shot has a very nice atmosphere and I like the almost monochromatic colouring. The man walking alone is a good addition and the shot is well composed.

é uma imagem sombria e muito bem feita. Parece até preto e branco mas o carro levemente avermelhado nos diz que estamos vendo uma foto em cores. O homem caminhando está muito bem posicionado dentro do caminho, enquadrado pelas árvores e pelos murunduns de neve suja. belo trabalho

Olá Carlos,

Como você foi longe, meu amigo. Em pleno inverno, a neve cobrindo tudo, alguma máquina passou tirando a neve da rua e só. Esta luz fria de inverno, as cores acinzentadas, a má visibilidade, as árvores nuas com exceção do pinheiro, esta é a atmosfera de inverno, que você captou com perfeição. Excelente cena do dia-a-dia, muito realista.
