Photographer's Note
This is another of the pictures I shot at the Jewish cemetery in Prague.
This was almost a monochrome shot anyway, with the grey gravestones, white snow, and the man wearing black, so I converted it to black and white. I thought it worked better that way.
Cropped slightly, levels adusted, converted to greyscale and USM applied.

This is a stunning image. it's one of those that belongs to big galleries or books about classical photography.
It's monumental in it's simplicity.
B/W - excellent choice.
Hats off to you, Ben.

Ben a gorgeous shot i completely agree with George should be a large print just 800 pixles isn't enough to enjoy this. Beautiful compostion and the detail on the stone is impressive. But for me its the atmosphere that makes this very very engrosssing. So good its going into my favourites.
Cheers

Hi Ben,
Fantastic shot. Everything is perfect. The shadow of the tree on the wall is a detail very powerful. The B/W is awesome, a lot of shades in the grey.
Congratulations.

A classic style B&W. Tha man well placed at a strong point in the frame. The repeated stones make a fine foreground an set the scene. But the best thing to create a mood in this is the shadow of the tree on the flat wall, lurking over it all.

This is a great shot Ben. I think you're right about the B & W, esp. with the man's black garb against the backdrop of the white wall. Wonderful contrast between the texture of the gravestones and the smooth wall. Well done on capturing an atmospheric image here.

Hi Ben,
this is a fantastic shot, great composition and all the better for being in black & white.
I love the shadows on the wall, they contrast so well with the roughness of the gravestones.
One to add to my favourites!

Ben such a beautiful shot. A can tell you about how great is the composition, contrast, etc. but is the combination of everything like a fine recipe that makes this image unique. Great job!

The picture is well composed. The renouncement of color is contentwise appropriate. The black-and-white picture is very beautifully gradated in many grey tones. The picture is painted with light. Greeting, Wolfgang

hi ben,
i have picked this one up from your gallery - as i'm in a sort of "autumnal" mood today and this image fits it so well,
i think that evereything in this image was well considered, and the wall behind the praying man with the shadows of the branches is an excellent background, as if cutting off this cemetery from the rest of contemporary and alive world;

WOW...
I have found this shot thanks to Jerzy's critique of today. This is superb, man, one of the best in your gallery if not THE best. The BW tonalities are fantastic, so is the light and the composition, and the shadow of a tree on the wall. And the whole idea of the shot is great with this contrast of dead and living (the tree). To my favourites.
Cheers

And the other discovery...
To tell you the truth, I envy you for this photo. I wish I had this in my portfolio... Do I have to add something?
Oh well... maybe. ;) The way the man is reading his book, his hand, his pose... and in front of him, the snow on the monument... I just love the peaceful feel here. And the sadness too.
I miss a bit the grainy feel that film can give you more easily. It is a little too "clean" for my taste.
A jewel...
Claire
