Photographer's Note

The night I visited this famous landmark there was a huge crowd milling around the Blanche metro station smoking, talking, laughing, and taking pictures. I must admit, this Parisian legend is quite a sight - bright, gaudy, and beautiful. I didn't stop inside for a show, but I think I may have gotten some glitter in my eyes just from standing outside!

Moulin Rouge (or 'Red Mill') is a cabaret that was constructed by Joseph Oller in 1889. It is located in the Paris district of Pigalle on Boulevard de Clichy and is recognized by the famous red windmill on its roof. The Moulin Rouge is possibly best known for being the birthplace of the modern can-can and as the subject of a famous Broadway musical and film.
