While was out riding a pushbike I hired in Calvisson I came across this lovely Roman foot-bridge across a small stream. Calvisson is a small commune about 20 km west on Nimes. The cycleway is over 50km long and winds though some very picturesque countryside.

In 1304, king Philippe the Beautiful one made of Guillaume de Nogaret the lord of Calvisson and Vaunage. He then takes possession of the royal residence of Calvisson. This castle built in the current of XIème century is yielded by the house of Uzès in 1264 to king de France. Construction principal formerly house of the Viscounts then kings of France was composed of two turns of almost 20 meters height and of an intermediate room 27 meters length. Unfortunately, it was dismantled during the wars of religion. In 1597, the baron Jean de Louet begins the rebuilding which will not succeed. There remains about it today only some sections of wall and two rooms. In 1714, a mill with corn was built at the top of the hill, centers castle. It was transformed into mausoleum and is always visible.

In the middle of the wars of religion, the village was taken and taken again with the hands of the Protestants. In 1704, Riding and its troops resided ten days at it. The behaviour of Protestant assemblies was tolerated there. It is about the Decade of Calvisson which was an important success because many Protestants of the South of France came to celebrate the worship there. Since 1561, part of the old mill with oil, places bridge, is used as temple until the construction of the first temple in 1649.

The church Saint Saturnin, mentioned with the files in 1016 was deeply modified since and does not have anything comparable so that it was at the time feudal. Part of the medieval monument was cut down, and the other part was preserved and supported by buttresses. It fell in ruin after the revolution. The Town hall goes back to 1848, it was built on the site of the old consular House. The bell which is placed in its bell-tower was that of the temple of Calade of Nimes which was remelted with the actual position in 1661. Following the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes (October 18, 1685), it was intended for the church Sainte Eugenie of Nimes but of share its inscriptions: “Without having the use of the word, I call at the holy assemblies the Saints inhabitants of the city who honour Christ in the pure religion” and “For Sirs with the reformed religion of Nimes to be used for their large Temple” it was refused. Bought by Calvisson, it was initially placed on the building of the large furnace then transferred in the belfry from the Town hall as of completion from its construction.
