Photographer's Note
The town of Beziers in Hérault devotes one Sunday in April to the memory of its patron saint, Aphrodise.
According to legend, Saint Aphrodise came to the town to gain converts at the end of the third century. Preaching self-denial, poverty and brotherly love, he quickly made enemies, and was beheaded on Place Saint Cyr.
The town marks his feast day with music, folk-dancing, races and stalls selling wines and local produce. The festival ends with a grand ceremony to bless the Camel - said to have been Saint Aphrodise's companion.
