Photographer's Note

It is necessary to join opposite bank of Ardeche to have the sufficient retreat and to discover this superb village as a whole. Balazuc was occupied in VIIIth and IXth centuries by the Moors, but its current architecture is composed of elements going of XIIIth at the XVIIIth century. Formerly protected by fortifications, the houses grouped around the altered feudal castle, several times, but preserving nevertheless a portion of turn of Xth century. At side, a Romane church draws up its bell-tower with arcades surmounted of a pinnacle. To join it, it is necessary to follow small tortuous and escarpées streets, bordered by places of old gravers of craftsmen. Marvellous advance where brackets follow one another, arched passages, portions of staircases.
