Photographer's Note

And now to my favourite part of Lyon - Vieux lyon with its narrow streets, courtyards and traboules (passages to move silk fabrics without getting them wet) and great old heritage protected architecture. During the day some tour groups move through and they will probably eat in one of the more touristy of Lyon's famous bouchons. The tour groups mostly stick to the main trafficless street so you can wander the back streets without hassle. In the back streets are genuine bouchons and good art shops.
For starters here is a typical courtyard. There will usually be several entrances and also an exposed staircase or 2 leading to apartments on higher floors. Some courtyards have business operating in them.

Best in the large view.
