Photographer's Note

From the Gironde estuary to the spanish border, you have almost a 250 kilometers sand beach where you can go surfing in the Atlantic ocean. You need:
- a board
- a full wet suit
- to know how to stand up on the board and run the waves!

Hello Claude,

You have achieved beautiful colours on this neat, sharp photograph. The surfers costumes co-ordinate so perfectly with their surroundings.

I was watching a interesting programme which looked at the history of surfing. I was surprised to learn, it was quite late in the development of the sport that they began fastening themselves to the board. Previously, when they lost balance, they would have to go back to the beach to retrieve their board.

Hello Claude,
This photo shows their great expectations very clearly. Their bodies and postures express a strong sense of excitement. Remembering an earlier photo of people leaving the beach, some easy clone stamping would have been possible on this one too, to show the beach as completely undisturbed (even if it wasn't).
In a way WS #1 is conventionally more attractive, but less exciting.

I have never surfed and I will probably never surf, but it is a beautiful sport and the photos are very attractive :)

Bonjour Claude,

I have never ever tried this sport because I have zero sense of balance and doubt if I could stand on a surf board for more than one second before falling off!

But I very much like your little trio of photographs. Your main on is my favourite with the couple eagerly heading to the sea to enjoy some time surfing. And I must confess that until I read Gert's critique, I had also not noticed the person approaching by the foot of the woman!

Workshop #1 is nicely colourful with the surfers heading back from the sea and #2 is a nice fun shot of the little "dance" required to wriggle into a wet suit!

Brilliant!

Well timed and focused shot of this couple going surfing. I'm sure they are going to have fun. I'm also sure the water was not warm in May.
