Photographer's Note

Walking along the Canal du Rhone to Sete at the height of the ponds, however, one can see "the huts of the Rock" that contribute to the charm of this Natura 2000 site. Near La Grande Motte and Mauguio in "Petite Camargue" is the lake of gold. Shallow (average 1.20m), it is a small-scale fishing is practiced in a boat shaped with a flat bottom, "the négafols". On the banks of the pond of Gold are numerous shacks that sometimes come together in a hamlet, as here. Some are made of bits and pieces, on the other are true and serviced cottages inhabited year round. These residents are sometimes fishermen.
