Photographer's Note
The Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine started life as a Benedictine Abbey. The building was started in 1104 to accommodate the large numbers of pilgrims visiting to see relics held there.
It wasn't happy for the abbot though. He imposed taxes that were too heavy on the local peasants to pay for construction so they rose up and killed him.
Best in the large view.

Hello Ian
These long pillars arcade often give beautiful results.
First of all the endless rehearsal, but often also the special light that is so beautifully visible here in your beautiful photo.
Excellent presentation
Have a good week, groet Rob

Hello Ian,
For being basically a hotel this is a very impressive building. Few Hiltons or Hyatts would stand a comparison. I love these Romanesque arches and they also provide fine depth, along with the beautifully tiled floor. The light enters very nicely from the left. The sharpness is once again amazingly good.

Gert

Hello Ian,
The abbot learned an important lesson too late!
However, he has left a beautiful legacy in the shape of this building.
You chose a very pleasing viewpoint, taking in the corridor with the repeating arches and pillars, to create an excellent linear perspective.
The single figure acts as a focal point and givesus a good sense of perspective.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi Ian
its great that you took this photo from the side, i get the feeling most people would take it from the middle. what a difference it made. I guess this would be the biggest reason for NOT raising taxes! haha awesome shot, it really is. cheers

Hello Ian
Now there is a note to take away the happiness of this place. Still I could not comprehend the wonderful walks down the corridors back then. Being a commoner it would definitely be a treat to visit. Still looks beautiful today. Nice capture. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent view of the corridor, with a nice pattern formed by the columns, good light, and a composition leading us towards the end of the corridor. Very well built.

Absolutely a splendid picture of the basilica/abbey.
I love the subtle shadows of the columns on the left, the good light management, the successive arches and the perfect sharpness.
Best regards, Paul
