Photographer's Note

The rear courtyard of the the Hamburg City Hall (Rathaus) offered even better views than out the front of this imposing building from the market square. It was constructed between 1886-1897 AD. More info here:

An interesting aside: 'Hamburger' in German is the demonym of Hamburg, similar to frankfurter and wiener, names for other meat-based foods and demonyms of the cities of Frankfurt and Vienna (in German Wien) respectively.

Hello Chris, beautiful view of the Hamburg City Hall. I like symmetry, colours and sharpness. Interesting fountain in front of it. I was in Hamburg forty years ago, I have some slides maybe but of poor quality. And I do not remember much.

Ha! Ha! Chris, your notes reveal the teacher in you!

This was a tough one!
The beauty of the building is in no doubt, with so many attractive aspects to peruse and enjoy.
Of course, the fountain becomes the problem but, as a silhouette, as you have shown it, it does not disappear into the details of the building, nor shroud things that we would like to observe.

It's a fine building and the many well sculptured details are seen with a strong sense of 3D thanks to good light and contrasts. The colours are very good too, and especially I like the blue reflections in the mid level windows.

La fontaine aide au cadrage de l'immeuble. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de cette partie de l'hôtel de ville de Hambourg et de la fontaine. La lumière fait ressortir les couleurs. Bonne journée.

The bright sunlight was wonderful and you handled it skilfully, the details of the grand city hall look amazing. The dark silhouette of the sculpture is well included in the foreground as well.

very photogenic spot, I think I took many photos in this courtyard as well but since they were in the pre-digital times I hesitated to post them. But I decided to post some more photos from this period here.
The statue here makes a huge difference. Set against amazing elegant architecture.

excellent vertical compo with the repetition of triangles in the façade and the black sculpture in evidence . beautiful light and colors. this city isn't so touristic but looks it has nice spots to know.
