Photographer's Note

This image was taken inside Elisabethkirche at Marburg - which is from 1283 and thus Germany's oldest church in pure gothic style. The church was set up over the grave of Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia, a fact that turned it into one of the most important pilgrimage sites of the occident during the middle ages.
Hesse was among the territories which adopted protestantism in a very early stage, the church is protestant since 1539.
The landgrave had the saint's remains removed to show a signal against catholic veneration of relics. This is the mausoleum above the former grave site.
Taken on slide film with Canon A1, professionally digitalized.
