Xanten Cathedral IV, a photo from Nordrhein-Westfalen, West

Photographer's Note

In the cathedral are lots of wood carved altars.
This one is the Antonius Altar from 1500 in which you can see the Saints:Thomas,Dionysius,Antonius and Maria Magdalena.I posted a picture of another one of this altars as a Ws to show how big they are.

Just in front of this altar was a massive gothic pillar,so I had to go a few steps to the side to take this picture.Actually it was so dark in the cathedral that it was difficult to focus.

St Viktor Cathedral
The legend tells that the roman legionary Viktor
and his companions died here as Christian
Martyrs in the 4th century.

The foundation stone for the St Viktor cathedral
was set above the old grave church in 1263.
the cathedral was build in the gothic style
and was finished in 1544.

The décor from the cathedral was very expensive
and valuable. Only the best craftsmen and
Artists could work here.

Inutile de cacher ma joie en regardant cette superbe prise de vue ! ;-))
C'est un véritable plaisir que de pouvoir contempler ces sculptures finement travaillées et surtout colorées. La richesse des détails est étonnante et déconcertante. Une époque où le travail bien fait rimait avec l'amour du travail !

Dit is een prachtig detail met al deze beelden in verwerkt, ook mooi scherp en met echte perfecte kleuren, niet alleen de fotograaf krijgt een compliment mar oog de oorschronkelijke makers van deze mooie beelden.

A lot of details in here !! Very well done !
The slight perspective is ok, but it's a pity there was this pillar ! A front picture would have been great.

The problem with those kind of pics is the scale... It's quite difficult to insert something that gives you a scale ! I tried myself one like this, but had the same problem :o) Here I guess it's around 60-70 cm, or so, no ?

Marvelous shot, rich in details and colors that depicts in full the beauty of the work and the artists' expertise.

Hi Hermann, A very nice closer view of the Cathedral art. This is a very clear and detailed photo. You have very well make use of the lighting conditions to get this very clear long exposure shot. The 3-D conditions are well popped out clearly. A well captured picture.

Fantastic detail in what can't have been the easiest light conditions - strange to see this bishop holding his head! I like the colour very much - well done!

Hello Hermann,

Woo 22 seconds is huge on the cathedral, i am not sure i could install a tripod on a French cathedrals, anyway the light on your subject is very good.

This is an amazing work, especially considering how old it is and the great preservation these statues appear to have. The exposure is very good because great details can be seen allover the photo. A real pleasure to the eyes.
