Photographer's Note

Situation at Sinzig two months after the floodings.

Ahr river is crossed by B9 highway and railway left Rhine line. Both bridges only leave an open gap of 110 m for the water - which was not sufficient at all. The water masses rose up to 3 m above street level and drowned adjacent living and commercial areas on both sides of Ahr.

The upstream half of the highway bridge collapsed because one pillar was undermined. Meanwhile, it has been dismantled and the remaining half checked. It proved to be stable, so traffic could be resumed. The street situation here is now back to the same comfort level as before the floodings.

Which by far is not the case upstream.
Donations are still very necessary and welcome.
