Photographer's Note

"We all are foreigners - almost everywhere.
Many of us have migrants or refugees as ancestors - which we should not forget.
And our Lord was born while his parents were travelling.
So let's welcome those whose home countries have turned uninhabitable."

I wrote this two years ago, and since then, there have been many discussions in Europe on limiting the number of refugees. I doubt that it is a fair share of the burden if some countries take up refugees by hundred thousands while others (without any connection to their respective sizes) do merely by the dozen - if any. They prefer to offer money to keep the borders well locked and the refugees out instead.

May I remind those responsible for that policy that being a refugee used to be normality in some periods of european history?

Meanwhile, the tree remains the same one.

This living Christmas tree is a good example of public-private partnership. Standing on private ground, but in outstanding position overlooking the town's smallest, but most crowded roundabout traffic circle, the tree is lit by public means as the municipality pays for light installation and energy.
There is no need to remove the lights every year - they simply remain on the fir. But the fir will grow annually, so the LEDs turned more and more hidden under the branches eventually. This capture is from 2011 and would no more be possible in this clarity today...

A Merry Christmas to all members of TE, with some rest and silence as you wish it for yourself!
